I guess he calculated a hundred updates at least for his game, so, with two months of break each year, there's the 10+ years estimate.
What I wonder instead is why the original title was Hateful Summer, as if the resets would make it always summer (or maybe another reason?)

Could well be the case, maybe the idea of tying specific seasons to specific Gods came to him as he developed the setting a bit - or else maybe he originally envisioned the reset period covering just Summer instead of the school year.

Given Touka's compassionate tendencies as well as her willingness to be completely blunt when calling out someone's bad behavior, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this one is gonna be an interesting scene.

no. For the green route it adds nothing, for the red route it adds an in-game commentary about Selebus being a poor programmer/hotfixes events not shown as missed.
*I haven't downloaded it, speaking from the info we're given.

Maybe it'll be something similar to the weirdness we had with the timeline/world skipping we had last Halloween but focused largely on Ayane? Or with her acting as the POV character for part of the RAS and Akira for the rest in the main events?
Last reset update was 0.45 - 0.44 ended with Sensei Quest, then 0.45 started with all the skipping and ended with the waiting room puzzle and the reset conclusion. Could be a similar situation/structure here (hopefully without anything resembling Sensei Quest lol).

The thing with the many Ayane events in .53?, might be a flashback of some sorts?
Iirc, after the conclusion of the last beach update and its happy/reset event, time was forwarded one or two weeks.
And Himawari picked up Ayane to bring her somewhere safe before that i think.
So maybe we get to see what happened with Ayane back then in the time that was skipped.
Some mother daughter time?, where afterwards Himawari erases most of Ayanes memories of it.

Though many key names you mentioned aren't a part of it, partially due to intentionally avoiding spoilers and partially due to Selly not planning far enough ahead; both understandable in this case though. Ami is one case, Sara is another (using son breaks her but using Shota will not).

Lighting is a huge thing, especially on the beach.
It's interesting to see Makoto seems to have taken over Maya's green skyline, while also having new colours.
I find it hard to believe this has no meaning behind it.
