You owe it to yourself to continue to 0.54 now. Especially if you ducked out at 0.45 and didn't see the end of 0.46.
My most recent save: Sat, November 2 11:26 PM, 2024. Day 2999, right after this:

But yeah, I definitely need to get into this thing again, I've been putting it off because I kept telling myself 'replay from CH1'. And the sheer size of the game kept scaring me off. Kind of like the reason I'll probably never read One Piece.

I guess I should just continue from where I left off, fuck what I forgot.

I did the same thing you did - except I stopped at around 0.50.0. I would have likely stopped completely if 0.53.0 wasnt as good as it was.

I admit I am curious to the significance of characters like Chika in this story.

Because you'd have Ayane, Maya and Ami, which are central.

Then you have people like Niki, Noriko and Kaori. Which are heavily involved.

Then people like Sara and Sana, which are likely related.

Then you have people whose only involvement is being there. It's like, the only difference between Chika and Taco Man is that he isn't Taco Girl. Otherwise they'd be just as important as random people that Akira had sex with during the resets.

But then, Selebus may prove us wrong? I am even more curious about Yumi and how Pareidolia knows her by a different name (and then became contracted to her).

Doesn't have to be rational for me to want it to happen.
Well, we pretty much know who the OTP is now - and we could kind of figure it'd be either her or Maya the whole time if there was gonna be one, really. Or possibly Yumi? I still feel like she's going to become a lot more involved with the central plot eventually.

But there's still the purity routes so you'll get a real Chika lovestory with that, but yeah Chika was never a realistic candidate for who Akira would end up with I don't think.

She was my favourite for a long time though so I feel ya lol a lot of her earlier events are very sweet and Chinami adds a very endearing aspect to her circumstance relationship-wise.

For me there are no scenarios I want more than to have Akira + Chika and Chinami to end up together and happy. What does OTP mean? What does it mean when you speak about routes? 'The purity routes' - means what exactly as it applies to this? Are you speaking about a roadmap for this VN?

Wanting to be a self insert in this game is all sorts of fucked up tbh. This is not a story about John Everyman, this is a story about Akira.
Yeah, that goes without saying, I think. He is not supposed to be a character you can easily immerse yourself into.

The beginning, portraying itself mostly as a harem/VN parody with the MC having lost his memories, makes you think he is mostly a blank slate, but you learn about his character quite quickly and start to see him as a distinguished personality with thoughts, wants and values.

Compared to other games where MCs don't offer much of inner monologues and thoughts, sometimes not even letting the MC talk at all, this is merely a protagonist that you follow and through whose perspective you see the story unfold.

I know that in other games, like the one referenced in the original poster's signature banners, trying to identify yourself with the MC can work, but in those games MCs usually either don't have a strong character in the first place or it gives the player a lot of agency in shaping the story and MCs personality through active choices and branching.
This is no such game, and anyone not realizing that and wishing for it to become a story about themselves that they can immerse themselves into is going to have a bad time.

It's kind of like watching Pluribus and complaining that Carol is not just wishing for nude models to sleep with and getting infinite coke and finding out about the world's secrets (okay, that I probably would do as well). The show is not centered around fan service and living out a silly fantasy, it's trying to tell a story and the viewer is supposed to watch and understand the characters, not be them.
And the same basically applies to this game as well, Sensei is not supposed to be you. And frankly, if you identify a bit too much with him, you might need therapy :HideThePain:

That is exactly at the end of the reset of 0.45, 0.46 starts 5 days later. If you forgot to (or had shampoo that you just got rid of), you have the exact amount of time needed to grind enough molly lust at her dorm to get her events during this. If you got toys you have enough futaba lust. Semi importantly, you'll get judged on whether you did wizard green path or not in that christmas update.

Fair enough, it just couldn't happen from this relationship because it was built on a lie. It has to be torn down first and we should get that happening in Chika's next update (I hope, leave Rin's events for Rin)

Chinami's also realised things and her relationship with Akira has to reset too.

At least you'll eventually get a Chika purity route.

Sorry, OTP is weeb slang for one true pairing - so in this context, we know Ayane and Akira are the goal after 0.53.

And yes, the purity routes are to do with the roadmap. Basically after the bulk of the main game is done, Sel's making a "purity route" for every love interest which will be a shorter retelling of the story wherein Akira dedicates himself solely to one romantic partner (the girl whose purity route you're playing).

We dunno what form exactly these purity routes will be presented in but basically you will have a story full about Akira and Chika together.

So what the heck do we even do with Niki moving forward? I cannot imagine a scenario where it makes sense for her character to continue involvement with Akira in the same way as before. Akira's newfound sense of agency and purpose aren't oriented toward her either, so I don't think he would actively pursue reconciliation either.

There's a high chance that Akira is actually living in alternate universes for a while, and at the end of the route, he and the girl are taken out of there and return to their real universe after evolving into a better version of themselves, kind of like what happened to Akira and Ayane in the world Himawari wished for.

I feel like her and Chika never having met is such a weird missed opportunity.

Unless that did happen and I have Akira style amnesia. Which would be terrifying.

Thank you for the answers! I feel much better now - and slightly embarrassed - knowing this. Guess its a testament to making great characters that this information is very reassuring

Niki's gotta hear the truth of a LOT of things. Some of it will be her trying to talk Noriko out of her feelings for Akira, which Noriko will be able to turn a bunch of it back onto her. Noriko's in for a lot of shit though when she has to confess that she kept seeing Akira in secret after he abandoned Niki.

Then Niki's gonna have to talk to Maya before dark route starts, since Akira confessed to having slept with her after Noriko seggs. I would love if this talk happened with Prime.

Can't guess any further than that, we don't know how Sel is going to approach the whole unmasking of Akira as a predator. But there will probably be echos of how it goes after more shit happens to Haruka.

No, she still doesn't believe Niki and Akira have dated nor have those two met. Sensei didn't call her up like he does for Sara.

Now could it be setup for an amazing joke? Chika finally confronts him and she pulls out "Was any of it real?"

Then he calls up Niki and puts her on speakerphone.

There's what, four characters that don't know yet? I feel like he's still gonna get treated with kid gloves because he had a bad childhood. Maki's harshness was reserved for Haruka.

God, what if we go through this whole rigamarole of Chika realizing that romance is distracting her from what truly matters, only for her to learn she's technically in a polycule with her idol and jump right back in?
