Maki and Makoto are being set up for a HUGE blowup once either Maki takes the blinders off or Makoto just drops the bomb. I don't think there's anything Maki will be able to say that will reach Makoto due to all the reasons above. This will be a post-Noriko Niki level event only with potentially projectile sex toys in their mutual anger. I think it will be the catalyst for all kinds of relationship dominoes to topple over.

Like imagine if Makoto fully crashes out and even tells Maki about Miku to show just how far its gone. That would be especially brutal after the hospital trip.

I'm not arguing that Makoto's feelings here aren't understandable from her perspective, I was mostly just trying to point out that her perspective has been coloured by extreme circumstances - and also that I don't think some of those circumstances necessarily change things in this instance as much as she thinks they do.

If I wanted a VN that hits the same as Lessons In Love - or close to it - could anyone suggest one?

"Lost in You", "Dissonance" and "Love and Evil Things" - seem to be the lookalikes. I recommend none of them.

You should try "Out of Touch", imo. It's my standard recommendation. It has a long story, interesting plot, halfway finished. Just as LiL, it has its problems, but hey - what doesn't? My signature has a full list of the games I played and what I recommend.

One of the reasons for main character hates himself is he didnt check his phone for a while when his friend called. Thats it.

But no, instead we have the most contrived bullshit - and this level of writing repeats a few times. I just... yeah, I played it and I'll play it once again once it's finished, but that's it.

Edit: I played dissonance as well, I'll just say I thought it was underwhelming. There's a post from when I played it. Hearing about recent developments also left me scratching my head (although I haven't played it recently).

Now THAT would be a dramatic knife twist for sure. It might even follow the fairy tale imagery for Haruka (Trash Wolf) by way of:
1st attempt: Too hard
2nd attempt: Too soft
3rd attempt: Just right

With how mask off evil Sana is now I can even see her setting up that scenario just to mess with Sara. Or maybe with her twisted logic its another "chance for them to grow closer"

Maki is due a true breakdown, she never got to fall that far when Masahiro died because she had to be strong for Makoto. I think an important part of it will be when Makoto reveals that when Maki brought Akira around to cheer her up, Makoto raped fucked Akira and she didn't even notice it happening.

Endgame isn't going to be one girl. Even Ayane and Himawari will have to share him with the others. The real pain is whether Maya (And potential others like Sana/Sara) are gonna be able to join everyone getting out of Kumon Mi or whether she's gonna be stuck there as a consequence of being a wish.

It's pretty much confirmed as of 0.53, yeah, a good chunk of that update is a big lore-dump as Himawari just outright explains a bunch about the world and answers some of Akira's specific questions. Prior to 0.53 it was a leading theory anyway but it was something strongly alluded to, we didn't have any specifics about the mechanics of wishes/wishing.

As far as Maya goes the situation is fairly straightforward - she herself is a wish, she was created by Akira's wishing. The world itself is the result of her wish - we don't know exactly what her wish was or why she made it (though we can speculate), but we do know that as a wish she shouldn't have been able to make a wish, only humans are supposed to be able to wish. That's a basic summary of the situation, mechanically.

But yeah, if you're having trouble following this aspect when people talk about it replaying the update would probably be a good idea. It's a lot of info so it's probably easy to have skimmed over something.

The point of the guide mod is to tell you what to do lol a lot of people find that it can be hard to figure what comes next in the sandbox and spend long stretches of time just clicking about with how many characters and triggers there are. I know I did my first playthrough.

But yeah, the guide mod has a feature that will keep you on the green path. On the hints screen events that have consequences or special circumstances will have a red '(!)' next to them which you can click for more information - for example 'Schadenfreude' in Chapter 1 has one when you get to that point, and the explanation will remind you that if you don't hold off on completing the event until after the first beach event-chain you'll miss some of Rin's events.

Dissonance, on the other hand, is a pretty chill game. Bonus points for having a likeable protag, might bore you out if you aren't into slice of life though. The denpa is there but not as invasive or controlling as it is in LiL

I am still at the very beginning at the dissonance so i can not talk about it except i remember it was very slow burn.
But since lil is also a slow burn, i believe i have the patience for it. But i started another playthrough of bannerlord and won't be able to play anything else except for lil for a while.

The AutoVN mod is good for replays, every event is played in linear order and you mainly just need to choose the green path (fairly simple, just agree to do everything). You will still need to use the puzzle guide, however.

Also yes, there have been many people who have posted about playing good uncle routes, IIRC she gets increasingly frustrated with Akira which is pretty funny, but then at one point Sel effectively just goes "fuck you, player, it is too difficult to handle multiple storylines, so now you are officially fucking Ami". I may be misremembering but I'm fairly certain this is what happens (it happened a while ago in real life time)

You miss a good 16 or so events at this point cockblocking her, I think? There's quite a lot of altered dialogue but the structure's mostly the same - i.e instead of freaking out about another girl or her massive incestual love she'll freak out in the same place about how her uncle won't stick it in her. I like the vibe of her and Akira's relationship a bit more personally but it's a lot of missed events.

In case you are still lost even after re-reading it, the mechanics haven't been really explained, but you can get a fair bit from what the wish world is and the small in-game explanation.

Nodokathon 2 is cut in half and you get a note from Ayane instead of like 4 events. By far, not sleeping with Ami cuts you out of most events out of any choice. Many of them barely having to do with Ami. It also screws continuity tbh.

After her, iirc, not sleeping with Sara will cut about 2-3 Himawari scenes. Other than those, things are more or less restricted to the missed person's arc. I'm talking about full events so far, not variations.

Do mind though that it has been a trend to couple red path choices together, so chances are that people will keep missing every possible event that can be missed soon enough.

Also, being real rn, Selebus himself said that it was a mistake to make a red path at all apart from the Ami choice. But given his poor implementation of "good uncle" I'd argue against even that. It feels like you're reading a book and then skipping whole chapters because you don't like a specific character.

I'd throw out Muramasa and Umineko as the other obvious quality choices for VNs
