Ah, but you see, this is exactly WHY it would make sense to sell it.

Think about this: She knows the actress was underage. Seeing as how strong she feels about it morally, WOULD she sell the videos if it was anyone other than her?

If it's her, she could easily see that by selling it, it's victimless now, as the victim, is profiting off of it. She has won back control, in a way.

It mirrors how a lot of rape victims will act out to win back their sexuality and sexual freedom. They feel it was stolen from them, so they do things to steal it back.

This could easily be what Maki is doing.

I don't think Maki is bad enough of a person to sell CSAM of someone other than herself; and seeing as she knows all the history behind the series, she is obviously aware of exactly what it is.

But again, if it is her? She would still have the moral high ground to sell it. It would make sense for her to use it to confront Akira as well.
But it wouldn't be victimless because, again, she would be roping her unwitting daughter into it in a very visible, public and easily discoverable way - which would also totally rob her of the moral high ground and put her reputation/business at risk.

Maybe I'll be back to talk in depth about the update, but for now I'd just like to comment a bit on a problem I've been having:

I'm not saying this kills the story, it's not like I'm rolling my eyes at the screen... but this specific part of the plot is also not doing it for me. I can't get really invested with a "problem" that isn't a problem at all from the lack of any actual possible consequences.

Maki will be away for a while, and that's really all that could have possibly happened. Does anyone care? Akira clearly doesn't and neither do I.
I think what you’re describing *is* the point of that scene – or, well, maybe not the entire point, but definitely a significant part of it – because LiL has always been about this strange mix of extremely realistic scenarios juxtaposed against extremely unrealistic ones (which is a separate topic that I’m currently writing an entire mega-essay about, but that’ll have to wait for at least a week), and the underlying “meaninglessness” of it all is something that is always looming in the background, casting its shadow onto how everything else in the game is perceived.
