Being open about wanting to have sex with your sister's bf doesn't make it not cheating when you finally do it.
She also went behind Niki's back to have sex with him during a trip Niki really cared about, instead of doing it at literally any other time or place. And of course she kept going for five hours once they were caught.
Like with pretty much every situation Akira bears more responsibility for it as an actual adult, but it's still pretty shitty on Noriko's part.
Some points.
1. Noriko isn't cheating. She isn't in a relationship.
2. Obviously she went behind her back Niki would have stopped it otherwise.
3. Niki has tons of similar trips. Not really that special. I guess Ami was present?
4. If you had been lusting after someone for over a literal decade and they finally gave you your shoot you'd probably go for 5 hours if you had the stamina.
But I get that Niki was being VERY optimistic in believing Akira was exaggerating. More than likely being willfully ignorant of the fact that he's fucking nearly 20 people at that point. I never said she didn't have a right to be hurt. I just don't feel bad for the girl.

Well, after ~260 hours i finally finished the latest update and now have free time for other stuff.
Praise be.
I have a bunch of thoughs and questions, which over the course of 3100+ pages were probably answered, but eh.

You didn't say she didn't have a right to be hurt, no, but you did say it's "Not really a betrayal on her [Noriko's] part" and his comment was in direct response to that.

Nothing you've listed here address any of his points and none of them reinforce your original statement.

And no, the fact that she expressed a desire to fuck him openly - usually in exaggerated ways that Niki always obviously took as jokes - does not remove or even minimise the betrayal.

If you personally don't feel bad for her then that's whatever but there's no argument to be made that Noriko didn't betray Niki or that Niki has no cause to hold it against her because both these things are blatantly untrue. You can argue that Niki should recognise that Noriko was groomed and should ultimately forgive her/not hold it against her forever but that's it.

You explained everything better than I ever could, but I'd like to add: wasn't it mentioned that Niki was suicidal the last time Akira ghosted her? And Noriko had a front row seat for that? Niki doesn't seem to have gotten that bad yet, but that's the level of hurt Noriko was risking in order to do this.

Like, imagine that fucking her boyfriend in front of her for five hours was the last moment Noriko shared with her sister.

I'm pretty sure Noriko is actually the one who first tells Akira this his leaving made Niki suicidal, come to think of it, but either way yeah she had a front-row seat and she's obviously the one who finds Niki's boxes and reads all those letters first so she knows exactly how bad Niki could wind up taking things.

Greetings, fellow thread-dwellers. It is I, everyone’s (least) favorite unmedicated schizo, back once again with a record-breaking super-duper long analysis (that was actually mostly written some time ago while I was on my “break” back in late December, but with the fast-approaching release date of 0.55, plus that whole thing that happened last time, I ultimately decided to postpone it until better days).

Now, most of what I’m about to say has already been individually mentioned at one point or another, usually as a casual observation or a small part of a larger post about something else, but I’ve never seen anyone compile and present it all as a single unified thesis through the lens of trying to analyze Selebus’ writing – which is exactly what I’m going to do here. So this colossal wall of text won’t contain any strange esoteric theories or “out there” concepts that require an ascended level of autism to understand – just a bunch of raw observations, partially filtered through my own perspective on the general story and its themes. Though it *will* contain an unhealthy amount of me glazing Selebus, so… trigger warning for that, I guess?

All of the other pairs are either extremely fucking obvious (like Ayane/Touka “rich girl” comparisons) or their commonalities are too vague/uninteresting for me to bother properly writing them out, since I’ve already spent *way* too much on this part alone.

Genuinely thank you for your responses and time. Not trying to split hairs. I see this as a selfish disconnect. In the moment you react, indulge. She wasn't thinking. As a young woman who spends probably most of her time thinking through everything and then rethinking it I can imagine it very cathartic to throw caution to the wind and just indulge. Still a shit thing to do but as the outsider looking in holding these points against a creature is like scientists watching mice in a maze. We see everything without the hormones. I agree that she is hurting her sister. She of all people has every reason to know better. My point is she has wanted this so long she just doesn't care. Is it a result of grooming or hormones doesn't really matter to me. I am saying that as the adult Niki ignoring all of those things why I have no sympathy for her. Never said it was acceptable to do. I just don't blame the Noriko. Maybe this is coming from the fact that I am a recovering sociopath myself. Or maybe I am not thinking of context the same way you are. Regardless the replies for camp Niki come across as "They are sisters for Pete sake" and while that is an inscrutable argument. I don't think given the circumstances anyone in her position would have cared. Sorry for the wall of text.

Lol don't worry about the wall of text, it's a forum after all and I'm pretty sure my comment was as long or longer. Shit, look at Charlotte's :p I'll probably make this my last response on this anyway since I've said most of what I wanna say at this point but I've been waiting for a bit to talk about this anyway.

There's a lot to be said about the grooming context which I'm not gonna go into fully since it's not really either of our points here. It's an obvious avenue for Niki to let Noriko off the hook so to speak but I really hope she doesn't, it would be super weak imo.

Well, tackling it from yet another perspective, one could argue that everyone's wrong in that situation.

On a side-note: taking it just from a pure logical standpoint, Noriko had nothing that substancial to lose long-term in her relationship with Niki. In fact, if Akira was a smart person instead of that mess, he could probably work Niki's guilt to turn the sisters into sister-wives and have a bunch of pink-haired Himawaris (if he'd settle down with just the two of them).
