ep1 renpy is ep1rpgm + start of ep2 rpgm, ep2 renpy ends at ep2 0.96rpgm.
The renpy version ends in ep2 0.96, then play the ep2 rpgm till end that is 0.98, after the end 0.98 rpgm you can start the ep3 that is only in renpy!

If you go a few lines up, if you want it's a continuation just in RENPY format. So as stated if you want RENPY for episode 1 you need that unofficial version, then you need episode 2 of RPGM, then continue on to this version episode 3.

It's probably because of the "no audio device found" some RENPY games refuse to start if you sound is disabled, which I find happens when I have 2 monitors, and switch back and forth. Just restart your computer, unless you legit have no sound device/card.
