VN - Ren'Py - Light of My Life [Ch. 1-7 v1.0.0] [Naughty Road]

My sentiment is not unique; nonetheless, I hope the team will hear my words of praise.

I've played plenty of games in which the storytelling was passable (e.g. DMD) and even charming (e.g. Summertime Saga). Beneath the dialogue and humor, however, is not a compelling story. In these games, I was purely motivated by thirst, and never once wondered where the story would lead me.

This game compelled me and had me engaged like no smut ever has. I was honestly reacting IRL to this story. Other developers please take note of how well a storyboarded game is received.

Excellent story that makes you care about the characters and left me wanting more. I genuinely felt bad for the eldest daughter once you (start to) find out why she acts the way she does. Can't wait to see future updates.

Great game to play. Once it hooks you in you cant stop playing. Looking forward to next update. The girls interactions are the most realistic in any game i play. Many thumbs up. Very enjoyable

Reading other reviews, i see this game already has extensive praise heaped on.
I'll add my comments to the from a technical perspective; this game must be considered one of the best uses of Ren'Py I've ever seen.

- fantastic character animation loops; subtle but enough to add that hint of life
- great use of in-screen effects such as zoom, parallax, and Tachie (the figures displayed / animated over the background layer when in conversation scenes)
- generally good transitions etc
- full support for extensive character renaming / "relationship" definition changing
- clear and effective way to lock or unlock the platonic routes for the two main heroines
- consistent art direction and UI implementation


Apart from the extremely ambitious and high quality implementation, the game also has:
- excellent writing (with a few minor exceptions) and no mangled english
- excellent renders (posing / lighting/post-work)
- virtually unique character models regarding the looks / morphs
- clear attention to detail and customised textures so the images are unique.
- what seems to be hand-built custom 3d models for some of the sets/backgrounds ( at least not re-using the same old standard daz environments)

Edit.) My reaction following the release of Ch. 4 v0.5.0: This is the best written Visual Novel on this website. Period. End of story. I prefer linear ren'py games over sandbox and there have been few that have caught my attention to follow until its end or whenever the author decides to discontinue the project. None other Visual Novel* (except for one other visual novel that has recently come out, Summer Scent), actually has me reading every single line. This is more like an extremely well-written book. I actually feel the emotion of the characters, whether that emotion be happiness, confusion, sadness, regret, etc. It's remarkable really; these characters are written as if by a professional writer. The character development here is something on another level. Please read the updated TL;DR for my overall opinion.

TL;DR: If you're looking for a well-written the best written VN on this website with its fair share of adult content, this is a contender for being the best one available on this site. Kudos NaughtyRoad.

*The models for the characters in this game are based on taste but the artist naughtyroad is certainly aiming for "realism" here (not the uncanny valley kind). It happens to be spot on for me.

Summary: A father and his two daughters lose their mother in a tragic accident 5 years prior to the games beginning. You (the father) must try to mend and maintain the relationship you have with your daughters, as well as develop relationships with those at your 9-5 job.

Review: First things first, I rarely review games on this site. If I do, that means that the game has gone far and beyond what is expected for a VN. If you're thinking about trying this game, please absolutely take the time to. The author has created, so far, an excellent story that is not your run-of-the-mill harem VN. The two daughters in this game possess realistic qualities that make them feel more like human beings, not just fodder for your fapping pleasure. But that does not mean it is drawn out like others where it takes a few updates to get past just sneaking glances at characters (like found in some other VNs on this site). There is no lack of "content" throughout each chapter. In summary, if there is one thing I can say about this game, it would be that each update leaves me not only satisfied, but wanting more. I very much look forward to future iterations of this story.

Solid so far with plenty of content. Unique characters and very well put together, which goes a long way these days considering some of the crap that continually gets hammered out and uploaded. Keep it up, looking forward to the next update.

Wow. Just wow! Really really good taboo VN! The stories, the characters, everything works here! Big thumbs up for having different models for all characters! Some people dont like but they feel real! Chapter 2 is over and were starting to get to the juicy parts. Hoping the story holds up when the sex starts. I´m loving it so far, wich means i dont need lewd scenes every minute! Great taboo stories are about awkwardness, embarrassment and the forbidden fruit! Keep going!

Really something special and not the standard. Great choice of characters and a marvellous storyline. Far beyond by its story line.
What many developers don't see: the story line is the most important part on any game. Speed, story development, forgiving selection errors etc. The difference between a good game and an excellent novel normally should be zero.
And this one has not only unique characters but also the needed dramaturgy. Can't wait for the next update.

The girls look weird. There is not much in the way of sex scenes. The setting is depressing.

This is the greatest VN game I have ever played.

The Good:
- The game's setting is amazing. You heart breaks at what struggles this family is going through and how a brave daughter decides to help the family heal.
- The girls are unique. The more time you spend with them the more beautiful they become.
- All the characters feel alive and real. No ripped MC with a monster cock here. All the main players have faults and frailties.
- The writing and dialogue is next level. It feels like you are overhearing conversations like you are in the room. No bloated inner monologues here.
- Little things, like characters blinking, camera angles to add gravity, the one bedroom house and beat up old car that accentuates the hardships they face, it's all perfect.
- You'll laugh, you'll cry, it'll change your life.

The Bad:
- I'm really struggling to find a negative, even though I try to balance my reviews. No game is perfect, but I can't think of anything I would change in this game.

The Ugly:
The female side characters are an 'acquired' taste.

This game is something special. If you are reading these reviews to try and determine whether this game is for you, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to check it out.

If you are looking for a quick fap, play something else. If you are looking for a game that will make you feel something, you must play this one. Be warned though, it's an emotional rollercoaster of a ride.

A well made , well thought project clearly made with a lot of passion behind it . The rather unique look (in the sphere of adult games) makes it stand out in a way that makes the characters look more human , compared to other projects . The slow burn start gives excellent exposition to the back story and some hints of personal secrets for later development . Intentional or not the story follows some golden techniques from movie making and story telling , such as "show don't tell" and "Is this the most interesting thing that happened to this character , if not why aren't you writing/showing it to us" which is a great starting point for any good story/movie/game and sadly a concepts alien even to some of the modern writers/producers/developers for multi-billion franchises and projects .
In conclusion giving anything less then the highest score possible would be a crime , considering this game's top quality writing , advanced story-telling and one of the best visuals on the market .

An OK game. VERY centered around wincest, and slowly corrupting the daughters. If that's not your thing then I guess I wouldn't recommend it. The models feel kinda wonky but it's allright I guess. Not my cup of tea, but it definitely adds an extra layer of realism.

This game features the slowest slow burn I've ever encountered and I found myself incredibly bored. Couch conversations, car conversations, office conversations. Talk talk talk and more talk with no end in sight. The only choices in this game are dialogue options. I guess what the dev is going for is a realistic feel to it all, but as I'm not super into the wincest theme it just got incredibly boring very fast.

It cannot be stated clearly enough: If wincest is not your main reson for playing adult VNs then you will be dissapointed.

I didn't think I would like this game, judging the book by it's cover. But this turned out to be one of my favorite games in the genre.

Pros:
- The graphic art and music are masterful
- The writing and game directing are top notch
- Denise actually lives up to the game's title

Cons:
- I can only think of a short list of nitpicks and personal dislikes
- For example, I don't like the co-worker, but you can skip that subplot

I'd call this a spiritual successor to DMD. The plot draws you in and the characters are real enough to be memorable. Almost perfect game. As far as character attractiveness, Denise is an angel. All I'm going to say.

Very nice made; The Game (Story) and Charakters. The Game is much more than click,click and click it is a nice Story and i like to follow the Storyline , this together with the very beauty Charakters is very interesting. The Incest part is in Games today often to find. So what is the difference ? To play Games like Shooters does not mean the Player want to do things like that. Like it or not but its part of the Game and i like it.

Now hopes or wishes for this Game
Why some Game Developer make only young Age Charakters what is wrong to be over 40 years old ? I hope for one older Lady in the Game maybe an Aunt or aged Woman and i hope for a Xmas or Halloween special maybe it will be nice to see the Actors as Vamp or anything like that... or as Jasmin from Aladin ?

Looking at the sample pics I was at first unsure about the game but I'm so glad I decided to try it as it's now my favorite game on this site. It was so refreshing to play a game where the characters actually look and feel like real people with believable motivations. It's very rare that I bother to read all the dialogue in a game as it's usually so over the top and unrealistic but in this one I read every word.

After playing chapter 3, I was really impressed with this one. At first, the art style was a bit jarring being used to renders in other games. However, when playing for a while you realise it works with the content. They are more sensible depictions of women, which lends itself to the more realistic tone of the story and interactions. Some of the incidents are still a bit far-fetched, this being an adult game and all. Regardless, I still found myself believing the logic of the game world, which is unusual for a game of this genre. The pace is definitely a slow burn, but I think given the subject matter, it is appropriate. Like other great games, it has its moments of tragedy and humour interspersed between the lewd. All in all, even if your initial reactions to the renders lean negative, I highly recommend giving this one a try as it might surprise you.

Simply stunning. Unique and cinematic art style. Professional-level writing. Most importantly, amazing characters you want to spend time with, even without sexytime shenanigans! But it's also super sexy as well, and the build up is excellent. Lots of humor too, all obviously written by an intelligent person with a passion for telling their story. Not just a simply everyday porn game.

Are you sick and tired of boring stories and characters so shallow you forget their names in about 20 seconds? A MC with a dick like a horse and dialouges without substance where you sit and think to yourself who the hell wrote this shit and skip through it faster then a cold beer goes down on a hot summer day?
With females who look so damn perfect but are dumb as a brick? And the entire experience of playing such a game is forgotten about an hour later?

Do you fantasize about a game that is like an actual movie with ups and downs and where you actually care for the story and the characters and their feelings?
A place where you get hooked in and actually get emotional attached to the characters presentet to you?
With an MC that struggles in his daily life as he tries to be the best version of him he can be for himself and others to face the challenges of life together? Where pain and love are close to each other and you as a player feel like reading a very good book or watching a very good movie instead of playing a game? With humor built in that makes you not only chuckle but burst out in laughter and still not temper with the story or being a cringe festival?

Look no further as this game is as good at story telling as Bioware in its golden days.
Not only do you get characters who face the same struggles we do in our daily real lifes, you seriously get characters that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and leave you with mixed feelings behind after each chapter.
As you play you will feel that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and those ladies will crawl slowly but steady in your hearth and nest down there as you curse the moment you reach the final screen of the current build and count the days till the next update drops.
YOU WILL go to bed and actually think about those characters and their feelings of being hurt, in pain or in love.

No dev on this entire website writes more believable characters then "Naughtyroad" if its a gifted talent i cannot say but what i can say is that this game is a 10/10 ah what? 20/10.

If you look for a REALISTIC depiction of women and their struggles and emotional problems in both body and mind and an MC that doesn't get more believable then this without turning on VR Equipment you have to play this game.

I guarantee you will not regrett it.
