there's one major problem with playing with ctrl to get to the good stuff
sure you get to some lewdety and the act itself brings you pleasure and whatelse
but when you stop to read and feel the story , of what they are going through , how they got there what they think
that act that you used ctrl to reach faster and see it ,becomes SO MUCH BETTER it doesn't even compare.,...
is like saying freshly made whiskey is the same as 40 yearld old whiskey
EDIT : what I'm trying to say here (but after rereading seems like I might have some issues communicating)
is that the lewd/sex scenes have different impacts , if you just skip with ctrl to see them , they are okay , they are just sex scenes .. but when you stop to read and understand the characters the sex / lewd scenes become so much more , so much better.
On the other side of that this story started 2 1/2 years ago and the last time the story had any new content was 10 months ago. I generally play these more for an interesting story to pass an hour or two than anything else but when the story is so spread out it doesn't really have as much of an impact as you have forgotten half of it anyway. If you buy a book you wouldn't read one chapter every 6-10 months would you

No, but there's a good chance an audience will go back for successive installments in a movie franchise. There have been several instances in recent years in which single stories have been executed across two or three films with at least a year between them.

I put that bit in there after I was getting a ton of low reviews from people who weren't actually playing the game complaining on how bad the game was they just finished not playing.

The exact wording, for those that never saw it, is:
"Right. Just don't come find me online to gripe, or post one-star reviews about lack of content in a game that you skipped almost all content of."

To which the player can reply with:
"I won't come to gripe or post bad reviews when I'm actually just skipping to the lewd bits."

To which it replies:
"Thanks, that's something I guess. Although I'm pretty sure you'd probably be happier doing something else, I still hope you enjoy the few bits you don't skip."

It was meant as both a joke and a courtesy, mind you. I have no doubt that LomL is a below average experience if you cut out everything but the bits with nipples out, compared to when you do the exact same thing to some other titles out there, especially to a player who's only interested in the nipples and could care less about any form of story, and I was trying to spare them that experience.

Not that that's ever worked, of course. :ROFLMAO:

There's always someone dropping by complaining on how bad this game is they never actually played, or how poor the writing they never read. And how when they do slow down for some nipples, what they get of the story doesn't really conform to the easy tropes they're used to and thoroughly confuses them, which is of course more evidence on how much of a stinking pile of overrated garbage it truly is.

Of course, I guess I should have seen that coming, people who don't read VNs will not read that disclaimer either. Oh well.
Dear NR, you must be throwing your hands in the air and sighing all the time. You have gone out so much further to interact with those who know your game and to MASSAGE the way for those who dont. You have put up disclaimers, warnings, pleas, et etc, just to be ignored. If you wont say it, I will say it to you. Ignore these people. If they fast forward through movies to get to the bedroom scenes thats their prerogative but they have no business trying to be cinema critics afterwards. If I dont want to read the dialogue you work so hard on, if i dont appreciate the genuine movement of emotion and motivation you infuse your work with, I dont have to. But neither do you need to then field my uninformed and definitionally ignorant stances when I do so. You know how many people adore your work, and a huge percentage coming in with hesitancy only to be won over by your storytelling. We are involved in the lives of these fictional characters - which is the greatest achievement a writer can hope for. "Oh Well" is more than they deserve. Cant they see the amazing reaction the rest of us have. Obviously OUR opinons dont mean a thing, because we actually played the game - had the experience, interacted with the characters. What do WE know? Dont waste your time on the clowns who dont take the time to experience your creation but take the time to criticize. They arent worth your time. We love you and we love LOML. Take a victory lap and rest on your laurels (and then start working on the NEXT update ! LOL )

I was just reading some posts here and maybe I don't have the full gist of what's going on, but...

I am an adamant hater of things like, "too much dialogue" and "too much narration", especially when it's poorly written. For me, an adult VN must have a balancing amount of story, progression, realistic dialogue, and...sexy time.

Light of My Life hits for me on all of those. It is what I consider among one of the best out there, and I'm not one to throw that out freely. Seriously, look at some of my posts complaining about dialogue and narration in other threads. I can't stand boring, unrealistic dialogue, especially when it's thrown in to "slow burn". I don't see that here.

Anyway, forgive me if I missed some deleted posts and I'm even touching on what was being discussed, but this one really has some awesome story telling and character development and it's a shame folks might want to skip through it.

The inevitable result of this being a one-person endeavor I'm afraid.

Reason most devs don't do it this way btw, is because it's also not the smartest move from a financial perspective: releases bring patron hikes, ergo more releases, more patron hikes.

It also clashes with the expectations players have developed from devs with more, well... sound business practices than mine. And funnily enough, that expectation leads to quite a few accusations in my direction of being a greedy milker for putting out releases much less frequently than some others, which is kinda ironic.

But I want to tell this story in these big installments and that means that there's effects like those you mentioned, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

It is true that the further the updates are from each other, the more difficult it is to stay in the dynamics of the game, especially if in the meantime we are playing other games that are just as exciting. I often had to go back to the story at its beginnings to immerse myself in the scenario and hang up the new update to the previous ones. But it's not a waste of time, especially if the DEVs take the opportunity to rework the previous episodes. And then shit! If we're not happy, we go to the cinema or read a book ... or watch a porn movie. :giggle:

A good practice perhaps is to play the game again, at least from the beginning of the previous chapter. That way, you can remember where you left off and have feeling of "continuity" once the new chapter is released.

Anyway, I am not sure if this has been asked or requested naughtyroad , The gallery feature doesn't have text content. Would it be troublesome to include text so we can fully enjoy the completed scenes when we decide to revisit it?

And I think this is where people that have complaints about the development and release cadence should simply find another game to play.

Do I like the cadence? No.

Would I stay invested in the VN if it weren't this good? Absolutely not.

Is it fair and reasonable to constantly needle, pester, badger and insult naughty for doing it "his way" when he tells everyone what "his way" is? No, and I think it shows a distinct lack of social awareness to harangue naughty about LoML. I am ambivalent about 90% of the adult games that I have come across and I can't even begin to imagine wasting a millisecond arguing with the developer about it - I just move on. The handful of times that I haven't have been to provide solicited feedback on a technical issue or something similar, and not to try to wheedle the developer to make their project to be more the way that I want it.

Ask yourself this - how much of my finite, valuable, will-never-get-it-back time am I wasting harassing a guy writing a visual novel? I submit that, if the answer is anything greater than zero, you need to seriously reevaluate your quality of life.
