At least give us the basic premise and what kind of game it is.
The exact plans are pretty vague at this point, but the general idea is to have a mixture of space gameplay, similar to the PalmOS game Space Trader (that is, fairly straightforward trading/bounty hunting/piracy mechanics), coupled with planet-based quests and debauchery. The on-foot stuff would be akin to the familiar CoC/TiTS model. It's definitely going to have some lolfurry in it (furries like making furry games…weird, eh) but I definitely want to crank the alien dial up a few notches.
I currently have a reasonably robust story/map parser in place (that is, it converts fairly readable YAML/Markdown markup into messy JavaScript objects for the engine to read), and I'm currently messing around with various JS frameworks to try to pick The Right One™. I'm more of a backend developer than a frontend one, so that part isn't exactly my forte.
I haven't been too productive in the past few months due to real life rearing its ugly head (nothing negative, but it's still kept me busy) but things have been settling down lately.
Lastly, I'm not planning to make this a commercial venture at all. If everything comes together and this becomes a thing, the project is going to be completely free, open source, and unmonetized. I've seen far too many examples of what Patreon and SubscribeStar can do to people.
The worst part about working on a porn game that's not ready to show, hell, not really far enough to be called 'a game' yet is that there's fucking no where to talk about it lol
It could be years before I go from silly prototypes to 'game worth showing off', but everyone always wants to see the game.
Yeah, I probably shouldn't have mentioned anything (Dog knows how many unfinished prototypes I have on my various HDDs/SSDs), but what I have is far enough along that I think it's going to happen. Plus it's something I really, really want and also something that nobody seems to have delivered yet, while most of my other things are decidedly more derivative and poorly conceived.
Also, I'm ADHD as fuck. And when it's not a job or something I actually *need* to do, it's not worth the mental energy to fight against myself. This is all just an excuse as to why I've spent the last month building multiple poker AIs. I started by wanting to create a strip poker mini-game and ended up going on the ADHD hyperfocused dive into poker AIs.
Maybe I should get tested for ADHD at some point, because I have the same tendencies. Working as a full-time dev for a while definitely helped me organize my thoughts (Kanban boards are a godsend) and settle down to some extent, but focusing on one thing is still a challenge for me sometimes.
A dram of whiskey once in a while can help, too.
This is why I like "this is a fun project to learn some shit" and not "this is my job." I'd be a horrible full time developer lol
er... I'd be a horrible full time developer on top of my day job. I should really give myself some credit.
Hah, yeah, that's the crux of it, isn't it? It's tough to find the motivation to essentially work two jobs back to back, especially if the second one doesn't earn you any cash.
