Honestly, I'm not surprised. The internet is basically the cesspool of unbridled human emotions; the anonymity provides us safe ground to do and say whatever we please, with little consequence, and that's why things tend to get out of hand. Personally, I've got enough shit in my life as is and there's not a whole lot I can do to improve the situation; having a reason and place to vent my frustrations, even if it's about/towards something completely unrelated, feels almost cathartic.
Sometimes, it's less about the object of our ire and more about unwinding our accumulated feelings. Sometimes it's the culmination of bad things that makes us lose it. I look at people who get mad at things like these the same way I look at those who get angry over sports' games. Those looking for an escapism are capable of investing a lot of emotion into seemingly "unimportant" stuff. Like videogames. LT is a rather unique game that started off with some potential and has devolved into a train wreck. The more knowledgeable and skeptical among us have reasons to believe this game will never be fished at this rate. Ofc someone is going to get mad. Just like they would if their favorite team lost.
