UPDATE: i found a bug in the original game, if you get defeated on the fight vs Rick, it will trigger the right cutscene but the one of the defeat vs the thugs, that will lead to a game over.
I corrected the event and updated the first post, you can download the new version and import your saves

Anyone have a guide? I'm stuck in the forest. Need to find the thug hide out but the only thing that looks sus is the cave. When I go there she says something like I don't have time for this and it's dark.

Other area unlock as you progress the story and talk to people.
The thug hideout is another place on the map, north of the town.
I don't remember what you need to do to unlock it (beating the forest thug boss, talking to NPC in town ?) but it should appear on the world map, then you select it instead of the forest as to where to go.

You need to go to Ryushika's house and find one of her belongings so the dog can sniff her scent, and then the hideout will appear on the map.
