Speaking Spanish in that part of the world, sounds to me more of a necessity than a trait. There's even a specific dialect: Spanglish. So, I wouldn't read too much into that... but even if... it doesn't change who he is.

Fuck that shit. I don't do politically correct. I was just trying to head off some stupid debate about racism. In fact race and racism have become woke words that people define on the fly. Technically, there are only three races on this planet; Caucasoid, Mongoloid and Negroid. Those are still scientific terms. In fact, there is not a single person on this fucked up sphere who is purely one race or another. I don't do race and I don't do prejudice. I do, however, do pissed off. I talk how I talk, I try not to judge others and I don't appreciate being judged. It's one of the reasons I like this story and the attitude it conveys. If you don't like me, the way I talk or the way I act, that's on you... not me.

I'm not talking about race either...

I'm talking about a epithet that is, for them, insulting, offensive and carries a connotation that you really don't want to be associated with. Think rape, kidnap, murder, exploitation of all kinds. It is NOT about being politically correct. It is about calling the members of that specific people, the name they give themselves, not the name that those that murdered, raped, kidnapped and exploited them, throw in their faces as a further humiliation.

I have no problem with how you talk, you have always been straight up with me and everyone, I have nothing but respect. I know you use that name because you grew up with it, like I did, like many of us did. It's NOT intentional of your part to be calling them "dirty eaters of raw meat", I know that much.

All I ask, is if it is within the capabilities of your empathy, to make an effort to call them Inuit.

Hahaha... Sorry if I hit that a little hard, FG. Race and racism are ridiculous concepts that tend to set me off. I promise, if I can remember the word Inuit, the next time I refer to Native Americans from the far north I will call them Inuits... Though, given my upbringing and background combined with my advanced age, it is entirely possible it will come out Idjits... But hey, that's just me.;)

Thank you. I am sure they'll appreciate the effort.

You know, while I am at it, I am a white African. Black people spat on my face for being white, white people threw rocks at me for being African. None of that was my fault. I didn't choose from whom I was born, nor where.

That cured me instantly of any connection to the concept of race. I ask, scratch that, demand to be judged by my actions. I am a Citizen of the Universe. I no longer have no affiliations to Country or Motherland. I have been forced to take a Nationality, for legal purposes. I went along and even served on its military. I did my part to say thank you. That's the extent of it.

Why? Because the country I was born in, no longer exists. The ones that took it over, expelled me like garbage. The ones that took me in, did it as a fucking favor, a reluctant obligation. At 10 years old, I was a refugee. I've been adopted, never assimilated. I don't belong here, I don't belong any fucking where. Now, at 60, I no longer care.

I can only understand the concept of race, through an exercise in empathy, how ironic is that? Nationality, means shit to me. Patriotism is an empty word. Flag, country, hymn... just concepts that I don't relate to, the best I can do is recognize their importance for others, because for me, they mean nothing.

So, never worry, I'll never talk about race. Couldn't fucking care less than what I do about that shit.
