If you read the site rules a game gets an abandoned tag when a dev offers no communication or update information for a certain period of time, not sure how long, a number of months. The game could or could not be actually abandoned, but that's the reason for the tag. Should an update drop, the tag will be changed.
As for the game, it falls into the same category of all games (and there are many of them) that go extended periods between updates. It is flat out anyone's guess. This happens because there is no way to assign a "standard" to the creation process. Most of these devs are independent, so absolutely everything is different from 'studio' to 'studio', including talent and work ethic. My best advice is play these games like you live out your days. Enjoy every update you can get, and savor it as if it were your last one.

Because honestly, no one ever knows.
