An answer to funnythings3785 analysis and my opinion and takes on the update. Of course read at your own discretion because it contains massive spoilers of Act 3. Word of advice tho... very long answer.

funnythings3785 you and i got very different takes on the update, ready? lets get to it.

Well, I have to say I am pulled to your argument and see your points. I went through it once, rather quickly and while I was sick pretty badly for most of that day so I doubt I was looking at it as closely as you, and I certainly haven't put as much detail in the story from the previous acts it seems as you and others have. Your points are valid though...

It seems I missed a lot of key things, though... I would say some things I would argue some different perspectives of it slightly, but I honestly don't think it would deter the reality of your assessment.

I am going to have to go back over it a bit (I need to do the first two acts again as well), hmm... I honestly don't know how I missed a lot of that... maybe I was "thinking" about what I was reading more than I was paying attention to what it was saying... who knows.

It always was.

There is a difference between what the dev says and what the game shows.
It was always an NTR game, but I don't think it was the run of the mill type. The characters were interesting and nuanced, and the story was compilcated and deep (at least for an AVN) with the possibility to go so many ways.
Now, I am reading from people who were playing and discussing/analyzing this game from the start, that the story gets messed up and the characters got butchered.. I got dishartened. As I wrote, this is a very long game, so I rather not waste my time.

Sure an AVN has to server the kinks it was made for, but if it does in a lazy and stupid way, then I rather read a kinetic novell, or watch a porn clip.

Great post, you summed up many of my problems with this update.

The Prof is a good writer but has a specific style (at least this is what has been stated by him) which is more on the side of flow of counciousness.

I do not know how many rewrites he does or if he pays attention to the details or is more interested in writing what is in his heart/head in that specific moment.

The issue with LONG and complex works like L&J, is that you weave a spider web of events, emotions, words and characters, and for each new strand you have to attach to what was built before, this could get complicated if you do not pay attention OR you do not explain what is happening in detail, because something could be a new facet instead of a new complete thing.

I will always hold on the belief that the flaw in his writing of L&J is bending the characters to the story instead of letting them weave the story, if I am allowed a joke, more like a puppetmaster than a narrator.

Wow, yep... I didn't connect the dots there, I completely forgot about her reasoning on that. Damn... yeah, that changes things and makes it completely confusing.

hmm... I think from now on, each time a new act is released, I am going to have to play the previous acts straight through and into the next act so I can keep some things straight because I completely forgot about some of those details and in this type of story, they are incredibly important.

I wish I had some cliff notes of each Act... now that would be nice so I could check things as I am going through the new acts.

I wish he would use one of those writers programs I remember seeing years ago. It was kind of cool, it was like some sort of database similar to Visual Studio where the writer could keep track of character states, conditions, etc... and story flow and connections. Something like that would go a long way to at least help him keep some type of handle on the "weave" and help him to avoid extreme "bends", or at least notice them more easily.

Is he even aware of them? The "issues" in the story that is?

He is, he does not sound like a clueless person, quite the opposite.

I think we also have a problem of perception, sometimes he tries to paint something but it is received in a completely opposite way.

Look at Mia for example, she had to be corrected in act 3 and even a bit retconned because his idea was probably of a good friend with flaws but she came out as a monster without chance of redemption.

Also I know that the Prof is open to feedback and accepts it willingly, for example I have a suspicion that he actually reads the thread and uses the feedback or ideas he likes or....there are many many many coincidences :D

I probably have to put a disclaimer on all my posts, I speak and write very directly and bluntly.

Maybe my reading of Act 3 also was influenced by the fact that I think I kind of read it more from an assumption on that perception, that when I saw hints of things, even though they had errors in consistency, I simply went along with it thinking... well, he probably intended it to mean this... or that...

Thinking back, I do remember just "going along for the ride" for most of it, kind of "checking my brain" at the door so to speak and that might explain why I had a much more positive view of the story and character progressions, because I "read" it kind of like how he "writes" it, just bending when he bends, accepting the turns as he may because.. well... he wanted those turns.

Maybe that sounds silly... I don't know.

Well you could split the cake in the middle.

Not accepting the Bastion TV show? It is an AVN, just accept the porn logic and go ahead.

Not perceiving a character as it should be? It is a writing issue especially when everyone and their dog have your same perception.

Not accepting that there might be some liberties taken about the legal system? It is an AVN, I mean TV shows do far worse, move on, it is fiction.

Problems with consitency of characters and storyline? Issue with writing.

Having Lacey looking at MC while on Ex and shouting "ATM guy" instead of wanting to touch him all over or hug him? Writing issue.

So you see, for some things is fine to engage your suspension of disbelief, for others, especially when you are reading a story that is held together by the deep connections and emotions of the characters, not so much.

For all this talk about Lacey, et. al, progress... I only say one thing: Deeds, not Words

You may hate the ending... it is a bit of... well... a lot of people hated it and felt cheated. I didn't care for it, but I didn't "hate" it like some do.
Thanks for the wave-off. I'm getting enough hate and feeling cheated from L&J. No need to torture myself further than needed. I'm not the MC.

Maybe "turning the page"? but it is heavy weighted to demoralized endings. To be honest, most are just going to be cuck/humiliation stories that are poorly written or if they do have fair writing, they are focused on kink serving, not actual legitimate story progression like L&J is.

The professor is really an oddity in the content here.

To be honest, I don't bother with much of anything anymore on the site. I am really only here for the Professors work.
I've read somewhere a list of Eastern style jap rpgm games they did it for players. But I lost the sight of that list. It was a nightmare fuel according to them.
