(It's a Unity game; you can't just compress the assets in the same way as Renpy. It's also a pretty big game, 25+ hrs of mainline content plus tons of optional content, so I don't know how much you'd gain)

It tries to guide you without railroading you too much on optional content. Main story runs on rails, inspired by Persona 4/5, so there's a calendar with core story moments happening by date. Only real gotcha is to explore the world; you can miss out on a lot of side content if you minmax too much. Just play and explore, and talk to the various people you meet.

They're mostly still images. The models and lighting are incredible though. I have one gripe about huge lips that so many games seem to have, but that's personal preference. The small boobs and faces that don't look like aging porn stars make up for it.
I don't care for that particular aesthetic either, although in this case i think it is more that they are overly 'pursed', or scrunched in from the sides, making the center fat. I've seen a couple of similar comments at times about the lips. Falls in the minor nit category for me.
Yes, the pinched mouth is key. Chloe's wider mouth looks fine with thick lips, sensual even. In Emily's case, it might be a deliberate choice meant to highlight her mixed heritage. Definitely a minor thing.
Do we need to play that side content on a set date of the calendar ?
Side content can be played across the entire book, assuming prerequisites are met (no xochi event in KD tea room until you've met xochi, and built the tea room)
