Top tier game here, IMO. Very enjoyable and binge-worthy.

All the characters are very distinct personalities, and fun in their own ways. I don't really find myself being annoyed by the presence of any of them, and most of them seem to have some good individual development arcs, too.

There's a lot of story and plot in this one, which I appreciate. And the writing seems quite good in general, especially compared to many of its peers. Very few spelling or grammatical errors. You can also tell by playing that a good amount of time and effort has gone into the story and worldbuilding. I constantly find myself noticing references to real world legends and mythologies from history and culture, which I appreciate. The writing, story and plot is not just strictly about getting into the pants of every girl in the game in the most silly ways possible. There's actually an epic grand narrative taking place that everything else revolves around, and that hero's journey is quite fun to see unfold.

Character progression follows seamlessly with story progression, and they complement each other well. Nothing too fancy here in terms of the RPG elements, which are fairly linear and simple. But sometimes simple is preferable to overly complicated.

I really appreciate the way a card game has been used mechanically and narratively to be representative of the MC's magic and combat. And there is even a bit more depth to be found here in the gem customization and companion choices. I would, admittedly, like to see some additions/changes to this aspect of the game, just to flesh it out a bit more, but as it stands it still works quite well, and offers a nice playstyle departure from the visual novel experience which dominates much of the rest of the game.

All the girls are pretty good looking. The rendering and character design are well done over all. I appreciate the subtle idle animations that help breathe a bit of additional life into the game, and some of the funny expressions that help communicate conversations.

Overall, I rate this game excellent so far. This is one of those rare gems here that is quite a bit more than just a lewd simulator (not that those don't have their place, too). It helps that I also really enjoy the urban magical setting--the modern world meeting a medieval high fantasy world.

The writing in this game belongs in a fantasy epic with a billion dollar budget, but here we are, with some dude on a porn game site putting out a game that has a story just as well written and immersive as any of my favorite books. In short, I highly recommend this game but I hope you'll go into it with some patience. It is not (up to the point I'm at anyway) an absolute sex fest, but it is ridiculously good, well written, well thought out and a story that you can really immerse yourself in and enjoy in these crazy times we live in.

Well I certainly didn't expect to be ranking a 'porn' game up with the best RPGs I've ever played but here we are. If the dev went full AAA it would be a Spark that burns brighter than the MC's does. Looking forward to more.

Was a little uncertain but thought I'd give it a go because the girls looked good and I was definetly glad I did. The girls are indeed hot. There are plenty of good scenes. The story is really well done. Even the poker battle element is simple enough that it doesn't bog down the game like I've seen with other similar systems. Great job Droid!

The current public release runs for 95 days , but you can continue playing after that. Having played this game all the way through from start until beyond the end three times , it should be no surprise that I give it 5 stars .

The game appeals for a variety of different reasons . The fantasy story and world , the characters , the poker mini game . Also the Edinburgh location also helps to give a real world feel .

There seems to be so many games around these days and most are not worth the effort trying . Love of Magic is certainly not one of those , and will keep you entertained for a long time .

I think the simplest thing I can say is that if you are looking for something new to try , then give this one a go , you are unlikely to be disappointed .

the first game i have always the need to hide ( H ) for see the what happen ( text UI take 40 % orf the screen ), at the end i don't do it just cause anyway the sex part animation is just useless and boring.

conclusion :
it's a great game, i just love the story, i love to don't play a 14 years old kiddo, personality of all charatere is very well done, just the "adult" part is just really fucking bad, but anyway i recommand it, cause it's still a great game anyway !

I've had more fun with this game then I have any right to do so. Love the story and the characters. Animations are hit or miss but everything else I really like. It's like playing an anime power fantasy and who doesn't like one of those? lol

This game feels, in many regards, as a AAA game when comparing to other games of the genre.

Where to begin with? Geez... There are just so many mechanics and well written characters, not to mention the whole lore that was clearly very well put.

The combat mechanics are simple and fun, and you don't feel yourself overwhelmed by informations or grinding for skill points, like many games that attempt this kind of approach.

So, almost everything here is very well done, thus why it looks like some big ass studio developed it.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this project. It is truly remarkable.

I just wanna say that this game is probably the best game I've played in this genre. The story is amazing and very engaging. I really enjoy it compared to most other games. The thing i feel might be something to work with is perhaps doing some more dialogue during the sex scenes, stretching them out abit. But that being said i would play the game even if it didn't have any sex scenes because i enjoy it alot.
I also like how you implement many of the characters into the story. The character development is pretty well done too.

I only wish to someday make a game such as yours with one of my stories.
If i didn't have a rough time with cash IRL because of the whole corona issue i would without a doubt donate to this game but i will make sure to do it in the future

Don't be like me! I avoided this game for so long because I didn't like or play poker! What a fool I was, it has auto play when you need help. I damn near missed out on what may be my favorite game so far. Every character is endearing in some way, their motivations make sense. The art is superb and the girls are flawless.

Considerations: Very good story, nice characters, quite limited lewd content so far. Maybe would be better including more lewd content, more random events to help cope with repetitive actions (wandering through the map, for example, looking for something to do...) Not sure if decisions taken ingame affect the main plot / relations somehow so far. Nice work.

I usually do not bother making reviews on this site, mostly because of the length requirement, most games are simply not worth the time to do so...

However, Love of Magic is quite the exception.

The story is nothing short of fantastic, the writing is also way above what you'll usually see in a VN.

The dev is probably one of the nicest one out there, and I highly recommend you join the discord channel and interact with him. Droid's been very receptive to many suggestions, and really spends crap of load of time working on LOM.

The visuals are way above the usual VNs, and the soundtracks are nothing short of exceptional.

The combat system, is probably the first minigame in a VN that I do not hate, dare I even say, ENJOY.

The only downside in my opinion, is the little amount of sex (there's still quite a few interactions, and sex scenes, don't get me wrong there) present in the game. I'd just wish there was time in the story, for more sex ^_^. Then again, the story's not over, and who knows what else droid's got in store for us!

This is one that I'll highly recommend to anyone!

Cons - Main Complaint - (!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!)
I really hate to mention this but the main problem I have with the game is the sex scenes/events.

25% are good
25% are acceptable
50% are bad

There doesn't seem to be any consistency with them. This can be good in certain circumstances but not in this case.

My main complaint with many of them is that there is little to no foreplay. One minute you are flirting with the person and the next the player has his dick inside her already. The scenes often are very short and are over before you expect them to be.

For example, the first time the player has sex with Katie, it happens super fast and is over quickly and Katie has three orgasms just from the short fuck session. Contrast that with the first night Emily sleeps overnight in your bed and you have sex. You spend a lot more time with foreplay and sex, yet Emily doesn't even have one orgasm. This happens multiple times when you have sex with Emily (no orgasms for Emily).

Some of the scenes feel like they were written by a porn star and others like the author doesn't understand how sex works in real life. So some scenes are overly "porn star" like and others feel really amateurish.

For example, when the player has vaginal sex with Molly for the first time, taking her virginity, he breaks her hymen, and then she begs him to fuck her harder and deeper? Virgins are very sensitive and tight their first time. It goes on and the player starts hitting Molly's cervix, her first time having vaginal sex. The player doesn't have a small cock either. This is an example of when I say, "the author doesn't understand how sex really works in real life." Vaginal sex is nearly always painful for a virgin. Things are being stretched (vaginal walls and muscles) that have never been stretched before.

Most people like more build-up to sex and more foreplay. 25% of the sex scenes are good so I know the author is capable of doing it. I've played a lot of games on this site and have contributed to some of them so I am not new to adult themed games.

There are only a couple of sex scenes with animation. I wish this would be greatly expanded.


Final Thoughts
Keep in mind that the author is doing 90% of game superbly and expertly! Most everything in the game is done very well! I enjoyed this game very much!

I rate the game 4.5 stars, but since I can't, I'm giving the author the benefit of the doubt due to the superb gameplay and character development.

I highly recommend this game and encourage everyone to give it a try!

I am not sure why I have only now gotten around to reviewing this game, but in short, it is excellent. It is more than deserving of it's spot among the top games. Droid puts so much work into the game with bug fixes being a nearly daily occurrence and constant new content updates and new plot lines to follow.

Here are some of the things I love about this game:

Story:

The story is the shining star of this game, it constantly evolves and changes throughout the course of the game and always leaves you wanting more. It is in the genre of urban fantasy and reminds me a lot of the author Terry Pratchet, I cannot wait for future acts and for more development, especially for book 2!

Characters:

The characters in this are fantastic, they all feel distinct and interesting with their own unique backgrounds and traits, you would think that each of them has a separate writer that solely focuses on them, that's how consistent and amazing they are. My favourite character is Katie btw!

Poker:

While the poker is not my favourite part of the game, it is the part that I am most impressed by, I have played so many games with god-awful mini-games in between that are necessary to progress, the poker in this game is fun and enjoyable and it makes you want to play it in order to level up and such! Top-notch job Droid!

Lewdity:

The lewd scenes in this game are great, they definitely aren't the highlight, but feel useful to the story and not just some one off fun, which there is a bit of but mostly in the side quests! The lewd scenes however should not be the reason that you play this game, the amazing story should be!

Content:

So far the game has 97 days. About 3 days out of every 7 has more story content in it and the rest of the week is left for you to do side quests and level up your character, you never feel bored and there is never a slow moment! I would estimate that the main story in this game probably has about 5 hours worth of content, and that would be if you weren't levelling up your character at all. The side quests are probably 2 hours worth and the levelling up and playing poker is probably about 2 hours! overall you get to about 9-10 hours of content if you are playing through it quickly and skimming over most of the text, if you want to take in the amazing story you will get something like 15 hours of playtime out of it!

Overall this game absolutely deserves the 5/5, it has the best story out of any game I have played and everything else in the game are within a hair's length of perfect. Well Done Droid!

Really fun to play an a great story. I always enjoy playing love of magic, there's something in it for everyone from lewd scenes to combat and making yourself the optimal build. However even for someone who doesn't get the hang of poker the game is very user friendly with an auto option and hints on what card to play. Not having the most optimal build is fine as well once you get the hang of it, and the game really eases you in.

Sex scenes could be perhaps be a slightly more sexier but otherwise the game is great. All the characters grow on you and you find yourself completely invested in the story meanwhile even after each act is complete, there's always more side content to try and find.

I'd recommend Love of Magic to anyone who enjoys roleplaying games like that from Bioware but who also want the reward of lewd scenes. Definitely a game to play!

As of 5.7b I am madly in love with this game. Do yourself a HUGE FAVOR And play this story and enjoy it. All of the women in this game are all just beautiful. They all have their own little personal touches and kinks, wants, needs, and desires.

This game is so well-written I kind of forgot it was supposed to be a porn game at times. I'm not a huge fan of the poker mechanics but they are definitely unique, and they don't get in the way too much if you don't want to use them. The character designs are magnificent, and the game scales to feel epic as hell. As a bonus, the soundtrack is top notch, too. I almost never notice the sound in games like this, but I found this one compelling.

Great fantasy Story, it could be a great RPG campaign. Good and charming characters. Funny card system to play during combats.
The sex scenes are not so genious, but the general quality results in a amasterpiece game.

This is one of the few western erotic games with writing compelling enough that I would enjoy the game even if it contained no erotic elements. The storyline is actually exciting and interesting. The characters are cool, and the girls especially are very likable in their own ways. Furthermore, the actual gameplay is uniquely good. It's not very complicated or anything but it requires some thought and keeps the game from getting boring. The renders are pretty good, but that's not really what makes me love the game.
