Huh? Only a few games are that way, there are the same games that are on Steam on Itch.io (Itch.io has even more with content that Patreon and Steam don't like) that are still for sale, not sure what you on about...
And some games that got removed are still being updated in people's libraries, so they aren't out of pocket either.
News to me. Last I heard on Itch only free versions of porn are now allowed as a way to circumvent the credit cards (so now pointless to put it on Itch, no money from it) and Steam no longer allows early access porn games, they have to be submitted for review as complete with no new updates or DLC added later. Really porn on Steam was mostly pointless anyway as it's only allowed in the few countries that don't legally require ID/age verification to see/buy it (unlike the few US states left that still don't care they require documented proof and won't take someone's word for it by simply filling in their birthdays in a popup, Valve doesn't feel like dealing with that headache that's barely 2% of their overall revenue so just block it in those countries and go by billing addresses, so VPNs as the usual work-around will not work either).
Add to that now the cc's are using AI and directly blacklisting transactions linked to particular products themselves rather than relying on the platforms to do so (for now recurring payments are not affected yet but if you unsub to a game that Collective Karen snitched to them you won't be able to resub, you'll just get an error code while it's declined). It won't be long before there's effectively a global ban on all porn the way it's headed if they continue to listen to every moralist whiner on the planet that complains to them instead of ignore them as they should. Maybe then everyone will wake up and quit being sheep, altogether quit using credit cards and go back to cash, echecks, and crypto like I did after the last round of bullshit from them (July 2025 was the last straw for me, convenience is not worth also financially supporting censorship). Until that happens it's a shitty time to be a porn game dev. Making an ordinary non-porn game and dropping that on Steam is far safer if money is the goal, and even those are usually a waste of time for indie devs with limited budgets: just this year so far over 5000 of them didn't even make their $100 review fee back and over 8000 more didn't clear $1000 = if it took 1000 hours to make it they made a whole $1 an hour, even less with that $100 fee, electricity for their PC, etc.
