Damn, Jubs!, you are rockin' this thing out! My mouth was already watering from the teasers and the slice of life events in the .28 update! It looks and sounds like the .30 release will be awesome. Well, I feel like I've done a lot and not very much at the same time. The entire guild mission is coded into renpy, apart from a romance scene that I will script as I put the sprites and animations together for it.
This isn't the longest chapter/event I've done, but it's definitely the most complex. There's a fair bit of spells and combat, a detailed adult scene and a fairly large number of backgrounds, as well as multiple versions of backgrounds. For example, there is a scene where I create the background I want, then I animate that background having the camera move around the scene, then make new backgrounds from what the animation has put together. So I can have the action move to different parts of the same scene and it look consistent.
Over the weekend I was working on the adult scene, trying to improve the method I used for the one with Isabella. I won't go into the details, but the results were far better than I expected. So now I can put together high quality sprites for these scenes and then have them animated together. So I have high hopes for this scene. Having said that, I tried the method again today, using some different parameters and it really didn't want to cooperate. But that is a surprisingly common pitfall of working with AI tools. Anyway, all the sprite assets are generated, quite a few animations are done as well. I'm about a third of the way through adding in the sprites and animations to the script file. I hope to have that all done by this time next week.
Then I will have to work on the audio, which will be quite in depth because there's a lot of scene and tone changes which means different music/ambience + multiple combat scenes, spells etc. So I'll need to be sourcing or creating a fair few sound effects.
I've also been playing around with some new features (new to me anyway) for image and animations. The ice spell in chapter 1 turned out pretty well, but I've found a way to do something much more in depth. Using image references; plug in one or more existing images to an image generator and it will generate a similar image but with new features based on your prompt and any other images you plugged in. If I was doing the ice scene again now, I'd take the image of the slaver, plug that in then have the image adjusted to include ice beginning to appear, then plug the newly generated image in an additional reference, then increase the amount of ice and gore, then plug that image in, then have the guy collapse, fall apart etc. And so on and so on. So you can create stages of the effect. Then you can use an image to video animator like Kling, that has the starting image but also the ending image. Animate the first image into the second, the second into the 3rd and so on. Then you get a complete sequence as the spell develops. I've done something like that for this mission and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, 5-6 separate animations that are plugged together to produce one long sequence.
So I've been doing lots of experimenting, which is why I feel like I've done a lot and not very much, as I feel like I should be further along with finishing this mission than I am, based on the amount of time I've spent tinkering with stuff.
When I do get the mission finished, I need to do a little tinkering with the mission system in game to get the mission availability to dynamically update. It hasn't mattered up until now, but this cartographer's guild mission is intended to be the last of the "linear" mission choices. After this, every mission that I add is intended to become available based on criteria (character or guild score, completion of other missions, date etc.). But I need to add something to the character and contract missions screen that forces renpy to update all the variables and update the character or faction icon to show a mission is available. At the moment it's a static system - you reach a point in the game and a variable flips to say the mission is available. What I need to happen is, you score say a +1 aberrant gnosis point and that means you have 10 points and now the mission to back and see Saga and Felsia should be available when you click on the character screen. I also want to add more to the character info screens and the codex.
I've added a new 75 second long framepack animation to my you tube channel of Sarah as a frost mage, in a frosty environment making use of a thermally enchanted gown. Which you can see here:

The images in this post are a mixture of few preview images of 0.3 as well as some concept images, these particular ones may not get used but similar ones definitely will be in it.

Jubs! is picking this stuff up so fast, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say his IQ is between 160 and 185, and that's still based on Einstein's score of 200 which is the "top" of the scale. Jus' Sayin'And he took a trip away too. I'm starting to suspect he may not be human.![]()

This update is a day earlier than usual, just because I felt like doing it this evening. Progress is pretty good overall. This one has at times felt like a bit of a slog, mainly because of the complexity of a few of the scenes. It's also partly due to the inability of either me to be able to use the tools in the way I need to, or the fact the tools simply can't do exactly what I want. It's part of the reason why the AI bubble is at the point of bursting and why it isn't going to be the apocalypse people fear. They are just too uncooperative and inconsistent to replace humans.
I use AI stuff at work and we use it to ask it questions about things we haven't considered as part of a project design, what things we should consider when a customer will encounter a process. It's really useful for that kind of thing because it tends to point out or suggest things we hadn't thought about and then we go off and work on how to take account of that. Because it absolutely cannot come up with effective solutions itself. We also use image generation tools to quickly generate mock-ups to help people see what the intention is of a new design or process. Something a colleague of mine said today struck me... "We do this stuff really quickly, it would take months normally to get these sorts of mock-ups, but we can get them in minutes. Then we play around with it all until we are happy we know what we are asking for and then we hand it off to the real designers. to produce the proper ones." I find I'm sometimes seeing "mock-ups" of what I want to put on screen and dearly wishing I could afford a designer to hand them off to to do it properly. It's mainly stuff like combat sequences, which require more specific and complicated placing of characters. There are tools to help with this and I do use them, but what they aren't good at is when you need to do this sort of specific placement with more than one character at a time. I've worked out a method by getting the sprites I want to use, then animating them into a sequence. Which tends to produce laughably bad results when it comes to combat. But... those laughably bad results do produce occasionally glimpses of what I want. And I can screenshot those glimpses. An example of that is in the images here, but that's how I'm trying to get round the bottleneck of the inability of AI image generators to do good combat poses between 2 or more characters.
In terms of progress... almost all the sprites are in, there is still about half of one combat sequence to do. Most of the animations are done. I've written and scripted in the full romance sequence, taking the word count up to around 12.5k now. I've started adding the music and sound effects today, which I'm about 30% through the script for. Over the next week I'll be adding in the side images, finalising that combat sequence and all the sound and audio. After that I'll be working and testing the next version of the mission manager and updating the character screens and codex's. I expect early access to be released around 1st October, assuming there are no major problems to foul it up.
Some stats so far:
29 backgrounds, 5 of which are animated.
52 sprites of Emelia and 17 animations focused on her. I still have many animations to cut and edit before adding them in for the romance screen.
9 sprites of the player, one animation to add focused on him, he appears in a number of the other animations with other characters.
7 Sprites and 2 animations of Xanthe.
8 sprites of Kaisa, 3 images of her.
4 sprites and 7 animations of other characters.
12,500 words and approximately 1700 lines of script.

There is that I suppose! But *most* humans aren't, whereas all AI are."They are just too uncooperative and inconsistent to replace humans."
Funny, "uncooperative and inconsistent" are words that describe many humans that I know.
Nice catches. I can confirm all of them. I was going to go through the code and make note of them all to report, but you beat me to it. It's a great story, isn't it? I love the art and can't wait for the next update to see how much his animations have improved! I'm betting they will get rave reviews...Please don't take the below statements as negative comments, they are meant to help point out some issues I found. I really enjoyed your VN both the style and the story. In fact I have already signed up as a member of your Patreon page. This was the fastest signup for me to an author since I signed up for Droid Productions (Love of Magic) and Faerin (Man of the House - where I got my username). I signed up the day after I first found your VN on F95Zone. I am really impressed with your work, pls continue and progress the story faithfully to the end.
1. Issue with Aberrant Gnosis counter -- in the cave system as you finish up, just before Saga asks Emela about the possibility of mating with you your Gnosis score is 1/1. Then when the choice appears your score is now 1/2; after your chose top "Utterly Laughable" score is 1/3, but if you chose "Strangely appealing" your score is 2/3 ?????
2. Also on my second playthrough (wanting to get high scores) I somehow missed the first point for Emela's score, the first time I saw the dialogue choice for her score her point score was at 2/3, then when were on the road returning I saw the increase banner and I was at 3/4. I never saw the first point chance. This happened with Mum also, suddenly her score is 0/1, I never saw the banner for the fist point.
3. During the debrief after Cartographers mission, the banner for $500 overwrites the banner for +1 Cartographers Guild this overwrite happens often - you might want to delay 2nd banner so we can read them. Not by much, but some delay on their appearance would help some of us slower readers. Similar occurrence with Gemstone - if you keep the gem two banners pop up - you can read them but it would be nice if they were slowed down and separated by space or by time of appearance.
4. Possibly mark Character missions with Star to remind us that they found in the hollow Star section of your home base.
Note: during Emela's short story while Lilly starts to examine her, the chest injury moves from right side to left side tween screenshots.

Thank you for the comments and taking the time to feed this back. These are already fixed in the next version, they were pointed out by another reader here a few weeks ago. I'd left in some code that I shouldn't have and it was bumping the max scores. In the next version I'm going to force the max score to what it should be at the start of the mission so new saves won't be needed to correct it. Although I couldn't remember if I had fixed all these so I did a double check and found 2 spelling errors and fatal error related to rejected all advances with Isabella and fixed those, so that's a plus! Please don't take the below statements as negative comments, they are meant to help point out some issues I found. Einstien never took an IQ test, if he had it would have been the deeply flawed Eisenk test (given the time period) which required cultural knowlege (such as the words to Good Ship Venus) and so often ranked very smart people that lacked deeply engrained culture much lower than it should. So there's a very strong chance Einstein would have had a lower IQ than you thinkJubs! is picking this stuff up so fast, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say his IQ is between 160 and 185, and that's still based on Einstein's score of 200 which is the "top" of the scale. Yarp, IQ is meaningless, it just shows how good you are at passing IQ tests. But I'll take the compliment regardlessEinstien never took an IQ test, if he had it would have been the deeply flawed Eisenk test (given the time period) which required cultural knowlege (such as the words to Good Ship Venus) and so often ranked very smart people that lacked deeply engrained culture much lower than it should.
