I'm not being argumentative here. I just wanna provide my thoughts on the situation because I grew up with violence every day and I might be able to shed some light on some contention about how the MC reacts.

This makes sense to me. It was repeated that MC lived a pretty good sheltered life before coming into the new world. The most violent thing he experienced is rugby, so for him to be affected like he was makes total sense. Even after months of training, taking a life in CQB would be jarring to someone like him. If he grew up like I did, then I could see the argument that the affect on his mental state wouldn't be as bad.

On a side note, soldiers don't get that much training in USA. I realize that the USA isn't the only western nation, so you might not be talking about us, but our soldiers are usually considered better trained excluding special forces. Those people, no matter where in the world, get massive amounts of training comparitively. 3 months of boot camp for USMC which has the longest boot camp in the US armed forces by double the amount of the Army which is 1.5 months long, which is the second longest boot camp in the US armed forces. Then comes ITB (Infantry Training Battalion). That can be longer depending on your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), because you're learning your specific job. Your estimation of 6 months of training is close depending on what your MOS is, but ONLY if you explicitly talk about Marines. Any other branch, there is a high probability that they didn't get that much training. You said soldier, which in USA speak, means Army. USMC makes Marines, US Army makes soldiers, US Navy makes sailors, and US Airforce makes....well not just pilots and mechanics. IDK what they make. Military members who consider bicycle riding as PT (physical training)? OK OK OK. I can't be that harsh to our flyboys. They make the best damned pilots on the planet....you flyboys happy now? Real talk, air support is essential to ground forces. I appreciate every pilot in the US military.

Hopefully, if you weren't talking about US armed forces, you view this little tangent as a learning opportunity (which is what it is intended as) rather than seeing it as American ego. Maybe this info can help you in the future.

BTW Dev, the harem tag isn't implemented yet but in the planned section, so does that mean that if I choose a girl, I'm temporarily locked out of the others?
No, you're not locked out. It's primarily that the girls don't know about each other yet. (I can't speak to whether any locking out might happen in the future, ofc.; I'm only talking about the situation right now.) And they can't choose to accept the other girls if they don't already know about them. So there are three things:
  1. Being simultaneously in a sexual and/or romantic relationship with the MC
  2. and also being completely OK with sharing with other LIs
  3. And also, there must be at least three girls who fit the previous qualifications.
This is not yet the case in the game.

I'm not going to say much about my experiences in the US Army save that I did most of the combat arms special courses, but armies in general be they NATO, Eastern European, middle east, etc. are vastly different as black is to white from each other from basic to advance training.

However as mentioned earlier one's background and how society they come from influence the makeup of the various armies. This game has a very interesting world build to it. Off the top of my head, I'd say nearly a thousand years of western history is the inspiration for the world build... costumes that range from late imperial Rome to Victorian... tech like having trains but using swords...

But since this is a fictional world, the developer really doesn't need to explain these various elements, nor the society in which the MC's background is from... it is what it is.

Where fan commentary and input really help is how characters develop their personalities and plot considerations. For me I am kind of happy there isn't firearms in the game, but if the developer wants to include them, limit them to something like a Wheellock (no flintlock or etc.), just a wheellock, something that was in history that were very rare, difficult to make, extremely expensive, and reserved to elite units and noblemen... but in the age of gunpower standoff combat was normal and bayonet charges rare (usually one side or the other would run away before the charge made contact.) But... on the other hand broadswords and sabers were very common and cavalry didn't hesitate to use them (see Napoleonic Wars). So is there kind of problem with the MC having a soft heart about killing... a little. Trust me when I say hand-to-hand is much more stress fueled adrenalin then ranged combat... so it is a little strange the MC is willing to use a sword.

I am pretty sure that there are many more who have been in military positions in their country, but refrain from making it a topic in an international forum with a blend of nationalities. Sometimes it is smarter and actually polite to omit something instead of throwing it out ;)
Pure wisdom. Apologies to everyone. After this post, I looked up everything I said. Everything I said is easily found on the internet. The words of caution are taken to heart and I'll shut up about military things. However, I'm not going to delete my post because I still think that if the Dev wants to write about anything I said, the Dev has that info easily available.

Edit: Had to add this because I completely forgot why I came back to the forum and got sidetracked by the shared wisdom. The reason I came back to the forum is to ask...does it matter who MC loses his virginity to? I know the variable is tracked because of the update flashes at the top right of the screen. I think I shoehorned myself into losing it to Emelia(sp?). With the madame, I had the option, but Emelia didn't give me the option. (PS. forgive my piss poor memory for names. I'm absolutely horrid at remembering them.)

BTW to the Dev, the elf with the name that starts with "X", her bio runs from the second box and overlaps with text in the third box. It can be discerned what is said, but it isn't clean and easy to separate. Lastly, the Academy mission isn't firing. I spend time with Alice, then Emelia, then nothing. I look in the codex, look in the "i" link, look in the bios. Nothing. No contract and no star. Restarted the game and picked different choices, and it is still the same. Playing on the Linux version if that matters.

Academic fencing has a long and deep tradition in a variety of European countries. The MC isnt uneducated, so one could easily make some kind of relation up into this kind of corporation. It is at least not something that is completely irregular in our own times and globe

I am back, v0.46 is currently uploading, so the free release should be within the next 3-4 hours.

A fair few comments here! I certainly have no military background and I'm very happy to get feedback and information from those who do. I'm someone who really struggles when characters in tv, games and film don't behave consistently or believably, I just can't get over it. So anything that helps me do that with my own characters is very welcome. I do have to temper that somewhat though, the story has to come first. Not that I believe that realism and accuracy get in the way, just that sometimes the sacrifice is worth it. Although in this case, I do believe it is realistic. So no military background, but I do have a recent degree in Psychology (done part time over 6 years) and my job does involve analysing and managing behaviour, although managing client/customer behaviour is very different to managing combat situations!

Whilst I was away I played through the game in full and identified quite a few errors, including the one pointed out here about Xanthe's character screen. But thank you for pointing it out, I'm sure there are still more lurking in there. The character screens will be fixed in a future update. The update that is going live now fixes some transition, sprite, image and spelling/grammar issues I noticed throughout. Including the wrong way around foot.

With regards to the Harem and multiple romance content...
I don't really see this going down the traditional "harem route". Especially after I just said what I did about realism! Whilst I don't hate it, I always find it jarring with harem games where smart, sexy, desirable women decide to all shack up with one guy because he is above average looking, is kinda nice to them and has a big dick. My intention here is that he is going to be living a high pressure, high intensity life along with a bunch of other people doing the same thing. That committed romantic entanglement is going to be impractical and difficult to cultivate so they are happy to use each other for sex and and friendship, but not necessarily more than that. That is certainly true of the older women - Zara, Emelia and Isabella. They are all much older than the MC and even if they weren't in the situations they are in, they wouldn't realistically consider a long term committed relationship with him because of the age difference.
Then you have those of a different species - Saga, Felsia, Xanthe, Kaisa and Caitlin. Saga & Felisia's culture isn't one that has committed relationships, the concept is kind of alien to them. Xanthe & Kaisa are... complicated, but their lifestyles are totally unsuited to a committed relationship or giving the slightest shit about who else the MC might be involved with. Caitlin is one I haven't yet worked out, there are a number of ways I could do it based on the unique nature of her race, but I'm not quite there yet. But the age difference with her is... extreme... so there is always that.
Heidi, Gabriella and Lyra are the ones who are going to be tricky to get right, because they are in the age range that is ok, they are both strong, intelligent, confident women who have no need to accept anything less than exactly what they want. So... I'm still debating with myself how to progress their relationships beyond physical need but without a care that they MC has sexual relationships with other women.

The Sinclair girls are different and that is perhaps where a more traditional 'open harem" might well work. If they ware willing to cross one big no-no of a line, then it's easier to see them breaking another. Plus, trust and reliance is a big part of what brings them altogether so that also fits.

So for most characters, you can't lock them out for sure. I might consider a lock-out sort of route with Lyra, Gabriella, Heidi, Caitlin or the Sinclairs. But, if I did, I would make it obvious what is happening and a choice as to how you proceed or... maybe something like a "good end" type short stub of a story.

To the person who said they couldn't access The Academy mission... that isn't happening on any of my test versions - have you gone through the Alice camping trip event? As that is the precursor to it.

as long as you dont makes us choose between the mother or one of the sisters... this 3 rly are the enbodyment of main heroines. would be criminal to have to chose only one of them xD
