Thing is, most Patreon subs will wait, or some will in any case. There's plenty of dead projects out there still taking in plenty of funds from supporters that are being taken advantage of because they're too supportive.
What also bugs me, is these developers that take weeks/months to update their supporters and just go dark. No matter how busy one is, or what's going on in one's life, there should be at least a minute or two for someone to post and update people on what's going on. At the end of the day, every single one of those projects is a business, and not informing your investors often and being transparent is shady. Or at the very least, shows a complete lack of business sense. Personal lives, too stressed to post a quick update, etc... all excuses that show a lack of business acumen/integrity.
patreon system, no matter how well intended was as a project, became giant milking scheme. simply there is no consequences for devs that are not communicating, delivering.
patreon project ceased to be place for supporting artists and become subscription industry where clients come last.
i saw on one dev's page tiers that are not monthly but per major update. that is fair way. give me playable update and take money. not like some devs (awam, john...): 2-3 updates per year, each with playable 5 minutes.
i don't care for their problems, since they didn't stop subscriptions or refund it. while they were depressed, pet was sick... they are continuing milking. especially i despise guys collecting regulary money from patients and say we slow down projects because my first job needs more attention. and still continuing milking. wtf! by accepting money this become your job.
abandonment are another story... people are stretching game for year or two and then quit. from my perspective if you were taking subscription for more than 6 months than you should refund people that were subscrobed.
and no more artist support bullshit. we all know that ship sailed away long time ago. if that is case than put everything free for everyone and open non-tier based subscription account where everyone can donate if want. like fiddler in underground. don't make business out of it and not deliver it. personally i'll pay for every decent game brought to its end i enjoyed to play.
about people still paying abandoned games.... stockholm syndrome at max.
