I learned years ago that you can't expect much in a way of articism from these amateur devs, that's pretty much all (and it used to be far worse than now, completely default title screen and no music\sound at all). So my "standard" for that is just not high (but it still feels good to be surprised when some dev did a good job to be original). I guess that's how many other people feel too (or maybe they care about porn more). And how they distribute earned donations is mystery we all already solved, which is not "efficient".
Of course people can nag to him about issues of writing, UI, but like i said "i don't have skill" will be your most probable answer, if any. A new devs on other hand, will try to appeal to you, try to bring your attention (and cash). Astaros already have it, so his point of view in this is pretty understandable.
Well, some of these devs can be also pretty decent erotica writers, and even artists and programmers. But yeah, your explanation is how many amateurs coming to this industry for a quick cash, "stealing" what's popular. And it's mostly is incest.
