So, they published a new gameplay footage on UE. So, what can I say.

1) It is, of course, quite a strange decision to release the game on a modern engine with DAZ models. Pay attention to the hair, it looks as disgusting as possible. In the game studios, the hair is made in Maya with a complex simulation using the toolkit xGen due to which a realistic simulation is achieved. If in static Megan still looks good, but when she moves, her hair looks like a lump of slime.
All DAZ models are low-poly, which is great for static renders, but they're not suitable for full game play. If you want to take it a step further, you need to contact professional 3D sculptors and make detailed copies of DAZ models from the game, rather than just dumbly transferring them to the engine.
2)The scene is over-lit as much as possible. Note the unrealistic glare on the table, the reflections. There is even noise in the game, which they try to hide with a denoiser. In fact, to make a long story short, UE is like any game - it's real-time rendering. 3)The animations are good, but that's about it. UE has great tools for animation.
4)The scene looks boring UE allows you to use their textures in Megascans and props, but I didn't notice that in the footage. I'd like to see dust on the table or floor, dirt on the windows - that's the damn least you can do. Any beginner texturing expert in Substance Painter can do that.
5) Are you going to make a game for VR? Then why the huge letter E across the screen?
Would using Hairworks physics from Witcher 3 work with this?

Is there any way to get bonus content when if use compressed version in season 2. I don't see option for that (I play season 1 on non compressed version and download Season 2 compressed to save some space on my pc and internet issues, PC is nearly full now with games).
You don't need to do anything for the bonus content, It's already unlocked. The codes were for earlier versions of the game.

There have been a few different posts about this throughout the thread, but here is a list from one of my earlier posts. They are all obtainable in any version (Steam, GOG, or compressed), as long as it's the latest release, but most of them can only be seen after certain parts of the story.

Here is the original txt file I created for the list. Just right click and choose "Save link as" or something along those lines (depending on the browser you're using)

Having just finished Season 2, just want to leave my opinion (with spoilers).

I enjoyed the concept of this story. Time travel/day repeating is an interesting concept. I enjoyed Season 1 a lot.
Season 2 was good up until the point of double MCs. I mean, after this point, it became, for me, a completely different story... one I just was not interested in at all.
At this point, there was no more meaningful dialogue with the other characters.. it was just sex, sex, sex... The orgy scene with all the girls.... I respect the animation and hard work... but man, that was a slog to get through. As none of it meant anything... all the girls were just sexual husks... they were no longer individual relationships that the MC had to nurture and win over.. they were just mind-controlled sex dolls.. nothing more. Knowing this... Knowing that there was no real connection there, making it as meaningless as a dream, made me lose all interest in it. That orgy scene, with nothing of substance to the story, took so long to get through.. I appreciate the hard work they went through to animate it, but it felt like they put their energy and hard work into the wrong area. Definitely could have been better suited putting that energy into the writing.

That brings me to the big reveal of the story... It is all a simulation. What. The. Fuck. This basically the same as saying that "it was all a dream." What a cop out. What a let down. I can't express how disappointed I was in this ending of Season 2. Basically, tells the audience that the entire story "was just a dream". Nothing much pisses off your readers more than that.

They teased Season 3 at the end... Don't know where they go from the end of Season 2, as Season 2 seemed to wrap everything up, albeit in a disappointing manner. Season 2 retconned Season 1, and said "Nah, none of that actually happened". So, if Season 3 happens, I hope it retcons Season 2. Please Season 3, fix the story, clean off the **** stain that Season 2's ending left behind.

1) It is, of course, quite a strange decision [...]
Before upgrading the rendering engine (and possibly migrating from a compile time rendering to a runtime rendering) they'd better finish the voice acting...

...and what about the teased "Season 3"? How many years have we to wait for Season 3 if meanwhile they are allocating resources to the rendering engine migration?

I would be - in principle - favorable to crowd funding on Patreon et similia, but in practice... All developers tend to release updates veeeery slowly: the patreons pay each single month, and they get one/two updates per YEAR...

...at the end of the story, a Patreon has likely payed a 10-episode season about 120 dollars...

---

I understad that story writing, rendering, coding & debugging are time consuming, but precisely for this reason I don't really appreciate "distractions" from the crowd funded project like "voice acting is still 12%, but fuck that... let's play with a porting to another rendering engine!" (We can afford it because the patreons are willing to be milked...)

So the programmers and 3d artists are supposed to sit around and/or quit while waiting for the voice actors? Or should the programmers do the acting?

But I agree, they have way too much going on at the moment, not just this game.

Well... Inceton is asking money every month, and my guess is that 90% of the patreons would like their money to be used to *finish* what they begin, and not to begin 1000 projects (being one a migration to a new rendering engine of an UNFINISHED game).

I can't believe that once the game is up and running voice acting requires all this time.

My guess is that they are trying to find good voice actresses which agree to work for little money.

But since that money comes from patreons... Inceton should be supposed to use it to give a good pay to good VAs.

Quick and good does exist: it's just expensive.

But also refactoring a game with a new rendering engine is expensive: priorities.

The priority of the funded should be the same priority of the funder. In this case they seem to be different.

---

Besides: once they tease a "Season 3" like they did at the [not well received] end of Season 2, all the money they invest on the game should be to realize Season 3, i.e. the new content they have already promised, and not to "remix" an existing content (which furthermore is not even finalized in its current technology...).

Yeah, seems a bit strange. But then again, they had to redo 50% of the work already done as well, since one of the actors quit.
I think it's also not easy to find voice actors for adult games in the first place. Not everyone wants to do the moaning.

I'll never be the one who claims that they work efficiently. They also don't seem to care much for versions sold anywhere but Steam. Those haven't gotten the engine upgrade yet.
So if at all, the programmers should start there. Doing nothing and just wait for something else however is a bad idea.

Btw, they don't just refactor the game with a new rendering engine.
The Unreal-Project is something entirely new, it's a completely different game. A free roaming 3D environment can't be compared to just showing images one after another And there is a lot - and I really mean a LOT - more animations to do than in everything we saw so far. Besides that they also have some small projects running at the same time to keep the money flow up and running. Personall I think they are way over their head.

And this can also be seen on their Patreon number: last August when they released the last episode of Season 2 they had around 4500 patrons, now they have barely 2000 patrons. Lost almost 50% of the patrons in just a span of one year.

A real free roaming 3D environment cannot be done by rendering in advance any possible 2D frame like the current game we are commenting in this thread. Or 100 terabytes would not be enough to contain all the possible frames, and the algorithm to choose the correct sequence of frames according to the movement of the virtual camera would be more complicated than the rendering algorithm itself...

...I think that the only way to do it is runtime rendering (or at most you can render in advance some basic positions of the bodies, but then use them as 3D sprites that you still have to project in 2D to decide which pixels should be lit), and this requires the player to own a very powerful machine... IDK how many of us are willing to invest 5k $ just to play a porn virtual reality game.

This technology will be available and it will make big money... But only when the top shelf user hardware will cost no more than 1k $, and medium-level 500$... By now it appears to be premature.

As you said, it's a completely different technology. People want new contents on new technology, not adaptations of old contents born in a different technology.

The first 3D games to be successful were Doom and Tomb Raider. Before them, 3D CGI was used to adapt PacMan in 3D, but it was never a success: same as 2D pacman but you could also jump over the ghosts to avoid them. Bummer.

This is going to be the same: I don't care if I can roam the house freely in 3D if the NPC just remain freezed in their position when it's not their turn to interact with the MC.
Can you hear that damned buzzer noise when you click on a NPC and the system replies "I don't need to talk her now"?

To exploit a 3D free roaming environment NPCs should act like in Doom, or Tomb Raider, or whatever young people play nowadays in a non porn game.

---

By the way, this is the reason why in current version movements in animations appear reasonably natural, while the walking Megan in the preview appears to be more robotic than the movements of Lara Croft in the first Tomb Raider in the Nineties: because if you render in advance a 3D animation

a) only the developers must have cutting edge machines, and the user is ready to go with a medium level machine

b) you can make any needed calculation, because it's not a problem if rendering a 5-minute animation takes 1 hour of computing time, if the result is more realistic.

Season 1 with complete VA was great and I bought it as well as recommended it to some friends.

Season 2, with all the VA hiccups - not buying it or recommending it until all the VA gets fixed/completed.

Season 3 won't be on my radar until the dev can make good on all the promises for Season 2.

This is not a hobby for the dev - it is a business, so the dev is responsible for allocating work to those employees originally dedicated to Season 3 until such time as the Season 2 VA is complete.

This can be Sesson 3 preparation or support of other VNs already being developed in house.

I have not played Season 2 and am looking forward to buying the complete, fully VA rev once it is available.

I don't wanna spoiler, but chances are you're going to hate the finale of Season 2 even once that all the VA and all the technical polishing will be perfect... The story has become disappointing and completely kills any immersion/identification of the player in the story/with the MC. :(

It's like if JKR in the finale of the second Harry Potter had written "all you read in these first two books never happened because magic doesn't exist, so Harry is just a common kid just pretending to be a wizard, just like your silly 4yo little cousin does, and now buy the third book if your fantasy is strong enough to be still alive!"

I understand and I'm willing to take S2 at face value even with the reveal at the end.

I just won't buy it or support the dev as a Patreon until the S2 VA is complete.

The longer this takes, the more money the dev leaves on the table as people like me find other VNs they enjoy and decide to buy as well as the diminished enthusiasm for the Lust Theory trilogy in general.

If too much time goes by, Lust Theory will be just another VN landmark in the review mirror for me the way a number of other promising devs/stories are because they got rushed to completion or just never finished as promised.

Don't think so. The models don't have many details and games like house party even manage to run fine in Unity. Sure, that means there won't be a Android version of it.

The first 3D games to be successful were Doom and Tomb Raider. Before them, 3D CGI was used to adapt PacMan in 3D, but it was never a success: same as 2D pacman but you could also jump over the ghosts to avoid them. Bummer.
There have been quite a few successful 3D games before Tomb Raider (for example Virtua Fighter 3 years before), but it was around that era when it became popular, that much is true. Along with Pandemonium and some others it made the PS1 famous. Around that time also the Voodoo cards hit the PC market and games like Tomb Raider got according patches, making them even more popular among us geeks and better looking than their console counterparts.
There was also real 3D available long before Doom (which was still a 2D game in it's core, based on 2D maps and creating the displayed 3D walls on the fly, the one thing it did different than Wolfenstein and Commander Keen was, that it did cut out rooms out of a solid, where Wolfenstein had no 3D information at all).
Even on the Amiga you could find 3D games (Stunt Car Racer, Flight of the Intruder, Robocop 3), even if it really was not meant to do that.
Tomb Raider and Doom redefined action adventures and ego shooters however.

But it was about that time when the shift to 3D happened, that much is true. The first ego shooter with real textured 3D elements was Dark Forces (1994) btw, the Moldy Crow, Tie Fighters and turrets were made of 3D models, also the wall could have some inclined elements (the windows in imperial logo shape on Coruscant), something that Doom 2 could not do.
Gladly these days we don't have to rely on 12 MHz 80386 machines :)

2,200 is still way too many patrons, though. I used to love this game, but I feel like they've been taking everybody for a fool during the last two years at least.
