I think it looks cleaner that way, and I haven't really been utilizing the feature myself.
I also haven't heard any feedback on that until now, so I considered it a non-issue.

I use it for quickly going back to previous choices without having to constantly create new saves. It also helps for when I'm speed running to try different routes and the dev doesn't put a screen before the game quits to the main menu, causing me to lose all progress until that point.
Not a huge deal. I just added it back myself.
Occasionally, i already had it happend to have to reload a Auto-save when i haven't saved at some Point in a couple Games, helped me in those Cases.
