They should tell you if they use it or not, except they dont. Look at this lovely example of a 072 Project(now known as 072 Project X on steam for some reason)

That was taken from the Official MTL of "MAOUISHO:~ La Dolce Vita with Another World's Demon Lord" . Not to mention the mess Crypt Render is, so bad that even the old saikey mtl is better than it.

So unless a game is being localized by Kagura games or Shiravune , you will be paying for a localization ran trough chatgpt without any edits.

At this point bokiboki , 072Project and Hanabi Games are trying to compete for "who uses the most mtl possible to bait western buyers, Paradise Project style". (and yes all of those 3, 100% use mtls, at least for the western audience).

Otakuplan haz its ups and down because sometimes they do actual legit localizations.

Its honestly very easy to know when a mtl was used as a localization. Regardless people will still buy those MTLs which pretty much telling those companies "go ahead and release some more unedited/bad mtls". And said companies will never admit nor disclaim that they use MTLs
In that case, you can open a report on Steam to say that the seller is not selling the product they are offering and that they are violating consumer laws. Whenever they use AI, they have to warn you or they are committing fraud.

but as they always say, if there is no complaint, there is no crime, so if no one contacts steam, they will continue doing the same

Steam is not omnipotent, it has its flaws and things sneak in that shouldn't, but if you reported, they take action.

look this is taken from an otaku plan. from the game dungeon and darkness

They always have to inform you if any type of AI

Unfortunaly 1 person reporting does nothing.
The only thing that happened was someone warning 072 project about that line and then they "edited it" later on. But they still wont admit that they use mtl.

In this case, we must continue reporting and taking screenshots to demonstrate that they use mtl and force them to indicate that they are using mtl.

I don't play 072 project games so it's never happened to me but if it happens I'll report it and I won't buy anything again. In the end they are shooting themselves because they lose consumers.

If you wanna save yourself some headaches the ones u should avoid the most are the 3 "localization" companies i mentioned.

The others are hit and miss, (otakuplan sometimes gets lucky) , (saikey is like mtl here , freelance fantranslation there, sometimes cut content like in "Breakthrough" where half of a chapter is missing and theres cropped cgs), (dieselmine is mtl here mtl there, literal cut content even with restoration patches).

Well include Dieselmine on the "must avoid list" lol.

But yeah mainly those 3 i mentioned earlier anyway are like "sakuragames/paradise project" from couple years ago, releasing pure mtls for quick cash being reported by thousands people AND the devs themselves and Steam doing nothing.

But well from what i see most people dont care if its a bad MTL as long as it looks like english.

Well there are always other ways to get games if consumers want, so they can continue using mtl if they want, consumers will use other methods to acquire their games :KEK: :KEK: :KEK: :KEK:

That is true, but the people who buy said mtls are just giving the okay for those "companies" to keep doing it.

Have a recent example, the new URoom game was picked by hanabi games for a "localization". So yeah thats one less good game getting a real translations.
Heres the post

I guess the dev paying for a localized MTL is cheaper than actually using a real company like jast, shiravune, kagura.

perhaps one of the reasons what takes them so long to upload a game is, for some games even from steam, trying to crack it

i hope i don't have to be a skeleton when someone uploaded the steam version

but yeah, it'll take a while, so all you can do for now is do something else
like touching grass for an instance, or play something else atm (-ω-)

When I try to play this game in the Official English Translation by Otaku Plan, when I fight Lilith in the Tutorial, the scene is just pitch black. Is this normal? Or is there a patch I need to download?

Looks like a issue with the game tbh.
Someone who played the japanese version would prob know more.

It is normal when you lose a fight that screen is always black select one option, there are no updates or people who have complained, so the only thing left is the conclusion that it is normal.

This was also in the Japanese version and many people asked the same thing as you.

Well that doesnt look like the japanese version, but rather the dazedTL, which really isnt a guarantee that its like that in the actual japanese language version. (also p much all comments on that page are for the mtled version and doesnt matter how good a mtl is , errors may happen).

On a diferent note , the localization seems decentish supringly enough. Though i wonder why i even see "kek" and "Imma" in the localization.
Did the translation come from the Chan boards or what ?

Although I have used this version as an example, in the end it is the Japanese version translated by Daze, and the otaku version has the same black screen and there are no updates and no one has complained on Steam.

also in ci-en bugs they don't make any reference to the black screen so it's part of the game I know it looks ugly but it's what it is, unlike Daze, the companies that localize Japanese games work with the latest versions. (With this I am not saying that the translated versions do not have bugs, they also have many bugs too) There are probably other new bugs in the otaku plan not related to those of the Japanese version.

Since you look at everything through the prism of doubt, I understand the distrust you have towards companies that localize japanese games, here is the bug list in ci-en from the Japanese version, post from Sep/3 to Sep/21 are the list of all errors and the game had a ton of bugs . in the Japanese raw version
