So I became a sub-landlord, renting houses from the old lady and then subletting them to others. In fact, as a Chinese person, I've always been very interested in becoming a landlord.
I like the way you think! Unfortunately I haven't this far seen any way to pay rent for the old lady in the first place.

Using first someone's pure generosity to then collect rent from subtenants sounds to me exactly like something the House Carozza would do, but perhaps I am just unaware of some finer details of the rental systems of Ikaanos.

Please tell me exactly how you rent houses from old ladies if you will, so I could perhaps do the same in my own game.

This is probably a translation issue; this is just my opinion, and I can't do it myself.

Absolutely no problem at all. I haven't taken Michelle (and her dear friend Adrienne) into my game for ages. Thus I thought there could have been changes in the game that would fx. keep the elderly lady's house available after Michelle had taken her leave. (Such solutions have been asked for already times ago, so they sounded possible and also interesting enough for me to inquire about.)

When you set the workshop to processing, do you HAVE to have merchandise available there, even if you want it to process scrap metal into steel instead? This is what the wiki says
  • Merchandise Processing: The player can drop collected Merchandise at Workshop and have it processed into materials. These materials will be automatically transferred to his Resource Inventory as long as:
    • There are at least 100 available Merchandise.
    • The player has one or more workers assigned to this location.
It mentions nothing about how steel and c-boards processing. I have tons of scrap metal I need steel to make rifles, not more scrap, so I wasn't filling the merchandise pool. Does it automatically prioritize scrap and boards when you set it to process them, or do you have to micromanage how much merchandise you load every day so it has enough to allow processing, but still allows for maximum refinement?

If you have upgraded your workshop enough that the process scrap metal and c-boards options appear,

That only processes merchandise straight into steel/gold.

If you have no merchandise, nothing happens AND your existing scrap/c-boards will never ever no matter what be converted into steel/gold, unless you do it manually.

How do I turn off message about Gymnasium competition?

I have not played for a long time so started a new game. I always start with a year of building up cash and stats, doing the courses, reading the manuals. I happened to go by Gymnasium once and now I have this really loud competition count down and comes every day.

Looked around in settings and found no way to turn this message off. Maybe by turning off "home news" or some such but I dont want to miss more relevant messages, just get rid of this one.

And thanx for amazing game, Grim is the best.

If you don't think the gymnasium is relevant, you won't miss anything that is more relevant by turning it off.

You can see all the same info and more by clicking the newspaper between the mail and fast travel icons.

But how do I turn it off, was my question?
Edit:
Aha! Turning off "home news" actually worked, I had not tried it because i did not want to lose messages about street urchins breaking into my yard etcetera.
Ill try playing with it turned off some then. But I really do want news about what is happening in my home.
