So, pretty much as expected, though a bit rushed and light on details. I'm glad Marina is standing up for herself. I still feel like she's the biggest victim in all this given that Elena seems reasonably happy with her current circumstances and may be partially responsible for what happened in the first place. Marina also mentions not finding out about the vaginoplasty until it was too late to stop it, which I believe, but definitely requires further explanation. And I'm kinda disappointed that just seeing Gjoka is what triggered the amnesia. That seems like pretty weak storytelling, unless something else happened in the salon that we're still missing. I was expecting some sort of mind-bending identity crisis or body dysphoria.

Outside of her having sex with that police detective, Marina feels like the only real human being in the story.

100%. There's always the possibility Melissa revisits that moment in the salon at a later stage to reveal she was drugged resulting in her being knocked out and the siblings had to be away for that to happen, but I feel that would be way too much mystery box stuff. Even Jar Jar Abrams would think that'd be too much.

I was a bit underwhelmed here as well, more due to the fact that Marina appears to be basically just be written out if the story here. She is certainly justified in leaving Andrew behind, but all the lead up to her making this decision seems wasted - canoodling with the police guy - what was that about?
And, yes the whole vaginoplasty part is really hard to reconcile - Marina was "too late"? What does that mean - the DR was supposedly calling her to get the ok to go forward...and why does she earlier wonder if Elena was aware she had the surgery when Elena was the first one who said to go ahead with it? That whole part is muddled.

And the Gjoka part is so vague- the guy who never really does anything, but gets blamed for everything, continues his streak - walks in, asks fir a haircut, and bloop! End of scene. I still think he's a diversion, but hiding that (or his actual guilt) has been getting pretty far out there in terms of good storytelling.

It does kinda feel a bit like Marina's being written out, but if this is the last we see of her I'll be pretty pissed. There are still a lot of story threads involving Marina that still need to be tied up. And personally I hope she gets a happy ending, somehow.

Hm, I didn't interpret this interaction as Marina being written out of the story. I took it as a heel turn for Marina. She feels betrayed and I can see her return that favour by selling out Elena and her husband-stealing-uncle.

Marina is the person I feel most for. I think the story would have been better if it was told through her eyes.

I agree we have been seeing the story through the MC who has memory loss, has been drugged, has been kept sedated for weeks and who has been duped into having full gender change surgery. There were times when Elena started to think that she has always been Elena and not a young American man.

Juxtapose that with Marina's story. Her fiance gave away all of their money to his old acting teacher but they decide to get married anyway, even though he's a struggling actor with not many job perspectives despite her being a journalist who happens to be a smokeshow. Recently married they go and visit her family and travel across the Atlantic to go to Greece. When they arrive, the first night out with her family her new husband accepts to dress up as a woman to pretend to be her uncles wife, he even agrees to do so for a while. He goes to a salon to get hair extensions and generally get a feminine makeover after which he starts walking on high heels.
Being hurt by him before, she needs time away to see if she truly knows this man. On Crete she's being hit on but passes on those interactions because she's loyal to her husband. When she's on Crete her husband has a consultation with a plastic surgeon where her husband convinces that surgeon he has gender and age dysphoria to get his facial feminisation surgery. She accompanies her husband to the second appointment but has to leave to arrange other business. She can't leave with that knobhead because he decides to not only undergo minor facial surgery, but massive (irreversible) breast augmentation, orchidectomy, a vaginal implant among others too. He somehow lost 4 inches in height for crying out loud.

When she sees her transformed husband after those massive surgeries back in the hospital he insists they need to keep the charade up because he was told some story by someone they don't know and he decides to believes it. They even agree on a secret code, which he doesn't respond to at all the next time she sees him. Instead he's just kissing her uncle as if it's nothing when she has this good looking man chasing her who she has no eyes for because she's committed to her husband.

Weeks go by and Marinas husband sleeps in Nikos' bed as if they're the husband and wife duo. Where does this leave Marina? Don't know. She's rightfully pissed off. To top it off, her husband tries to blame her for his actions. She feels powerless and wants some agency back so she decides to have sex with a guy, the police officer. Why him? Don't know. But the rest? Yeah, that sounds almost like a horror-thriller story. Melissa uses the mystery box stuff to not have to show her hand at all times, but having the story told from Marinas perspective would allows the same potentials of hiding stuff from the audience to reveal them later by having Andrew/Elena open up at different times.
But that's not the road Melissa chose to go down on. We have a main character I think is hard to sympathise with. Not all stories need to have that, but I think it is what she's going with here.

that's not quite what happened. Andrew was persudaded to have some minor reversible tweak done to make him more passable by his two new daughters because he was going to need to be Elena a lot longer than originally envisaged. Though when he goes to see the doctor he has been drugged and just agrees to what the doctor proposes not knowing that it will mean irreversible changes in his body. Someone has told the doctor that Elena is suffering from age and gender dysphoria and it wasn't Andrew. When he wakes up after a few weeks unconscious as the doctor explains all that's been done he is totally shocked to find that the changes are not reversible. He cant even voice his displeasure as his voice is still healing. Since Andrew had no money he couldn't afford all these changes. The operations had to be bankrolled by someone in the money and conceivably with someone out to punish Andrew for the deception that he played on Toska.

From her POV it is though. That's what I'm trying to her say, look at the story through her eyes.

I was a bit disappointed by the latest update, but at least we got a little more info.

(I will refer to Andrew/Elena as Elena for simplicity)

I’ve always felt like Marina was a good person in this story and if you really read the story and understand her frustrations at what has happened, I think all of her actions are justified to this point. She is a 10/10 rocket, and Elena doesn’t realize what shes losing. It’s sad but Marina is hottest when she’s angry at Elena.

I think we need more details about how Marina was too late to stop the bottom surgery. I’m sure we’ll find out more about what happened with Gjoka. As mentioned above by Stevedore100, I too think Gjoka is a distraction or a misdirect. Other than him showing his gun to James in Crete, he hasn’t done anything else and that could have been to protect Marina instead of harm her, as James was bothering her at that point. Gjoka might be following them but under secret orders from Serfi or Nikos and is actually on their side.

as for the Marina & Elena situation, I think it was hotter before Marina finally broke things off. There was something so sexy and scandalous about Elena getting fucked and acting like a total slut for an man older man, while acting like he still wanted to go back to being a husband to his wife after all of this. Will Elena be heartbroken after this, realizing that this is all becoming real? Will she try to win Marina back again? Or will she now feel like nothing is holding her back from being with Nikos?

I don’t think it’s the last we’ll see of Marina. She still has an important role to play in this story in my opinion. I hope she gets a happy ending. I’d love to see Nikos convince Marina to stay a few more days to clear her head and so Nikos rents her a villa close by. Then Marina meets a tall strong handsome man (maybe a black man, to show a real contrast between him and Elena) at a local bar who’s sweet and kind to her. When Elena finds out Marina hasn’t left Greece yet and goes to the villa to try and talk to her. When she arrives she sees Marina and her new man through a window and has to watch as Marina’s new man fucks her how she deserves to be fucked. Elena has to watch as Marina acts exactly as she does with Nikos. That’s how Elena finally lets go of Marina, and it’s how Marina moves on and finds true happiness. Then Marina could decide to stick around with her new man as a way to taunt Elena, saying that they’re staying for the wedding renewal.

i will but the story is written with a heavy bias towards Andrew/ Elena. There is no doubt that Marina has been wronged and left deeply upset but I think she's wrong to blame this all on Andrew Elena who wasn't totally aware of what was going to happen. Its hard to imagine that Andrew would ever volunteer to be feminized permanently because when he woke up it was a huge shock to discover what had happened to him. It could be that the mental shock that this caused him to forget events and times who he used to be.

We the readers know that Andrew wasn't totally aware of what was going to happen because we have information that Marina doesn't have. I think that's the point misseva88 is trying to make. Andrew has already broken Marina's trust once, and the story he's telling her about being drugged and agreeing to things without realizing it is so unbelievable that it's totally reasonable for Marina to think that he's lying, especially because of his past indiscretions.

If you caught your husband sleeping with another man, and the excuse he gives you is basically "I was just confused, I thought I was really that guy's wife," are you going to believe him?

As readers we know more than the Marina character is privy to. As readers we're 95% of the time with Elena, including memories, dreams and fantasies. Marina only knows things concerning Elena what she hears from her cousins, what she sees and hears from Elena herself. That's pretty much limited to what I summed up before. That's her information on Andrew turning into Elena, plus the money situation that's still on both their minds from the first time they arrived in Greece. There's an interesting story there. Plus it would have a sympathetic lead who's keen to learn more about the feminisation of her husband, whether he truly is trapped in hiding or if he's always felt feminine and saw a golden opportunity and grabbed it with both hands.

Melissa is hiding things for her readers and slowly reveals information because of returning memory shards, Marina learning that information from her family and/or her husband/aunt would have given similar cliffhangers and information drips on us as readers. We'd be with her on a path of discovery in what's really happening rather than having to rely on a dream or something.
