I've always wondered why so many writers who could make quality games don't want to update, while the "average" game writer is so diligent.
Because the average or new dev is still trying to make it. They work harder on thames and try to keep people more in the loop so that they can build up goodwill, trust, and money.
Once a dev makes it and starts bringing in the big bucks all of that goes out the window. Their prerogative turns into “how can I extract as much money with as little as work as possible”.
Why can’t big devs take 2-5 minutes to keep people updated? Because they barely do any work. They don’t make update posts because they have nothing to update people on because no work is being done.
If they actually made consistent and meaningful update posts they’d just expose themselves. Either their update posts would contain no information indicating progress, exposing them for not actually working on the game. Or they’d have to lie about progress to keep stringing people along, but then when they release the update they’d expose themselves for barely working on the game when the content does not reflect what they said in their update posts.
When you don’t do any work, your only option is to be silent or vague and just hope your patrons stay subbed. And with how delusional and naive most big dev patrons are, they’ll all happily be scammed, milked, and stay subbed. But if the devs made update posts they’d expose themselves as liars, scammers, and millers and even the biggest paypigs would wake up to reality.
Devs like lewdlab have no choice but to keep quiet because they’re not doing any work.
