yes i did installed the mods from the opening thread. is it the problem? will uninstalling it help?

The cheat mods have been know to bug your saves, and that's what's happening now, which is why you are unable to progress. So you would need to start a new game without the mods included. Unfortunately we do not offer support for people using them.

You can try running it through Wine. It works fine on Linux, so there's a good chance it will work on a Mac as well.

I done the same. Feel like keeping save games in the game installtion folder isn't particularly smart

So Faerin has too much faith in the player's ability to see the save's folder in the game's main directory and have the common sense to copy it to a "safer" location between releases?
I agree, far too many people playing this and other games are far too stupid much of the time. Guess they'll just have to learn the hard way...
People can make a habit to first start the new version of the game, see all the things works, and later to delete the old version. This is good for all kind of programs, unless you have not so much drive space. That is why there is a note in OP to "copy the saves folder from your old game path to the new one" directly above the download links. It's right there for everyone to see.
