I don't expect others to hold onto every version, but why would you delete the current one? I keep every game I play's 'current' version. Don't you go back and replay things? Re-enjoy your favorite parts? Isn't that the point of porn games?
Very few games reach that threshold of being good enough to deserve replays on that kind of level, to me. I have 233 games currently in my folder, most of that is ones that seemed interesting enough, but I haven't gotten to, then games I know I will continue playing (but haven't gotten to that update yet), ones I've started but put down for whatever reason (but haven't given up on completely, and planning on returning), and then briefly there are the ones I play up until current content is done, delete and wait for the next drop. I can always redownload if I get a hankering for a particular game.

Revisiting games is fine too, nothing against it. I've found when I do, it's after a new update and I'll play the entire game again, like reading a novel. I almost never drop into a particular chapter, or even use the replay gallery. That likely isn't the norm, since replay galleries are popular.

Edit: It's also a way to not open up a game repeatedly and see there is no new content, which would happen if I didn't delete or move games to a different folder. It's a cleaner menu of potential stories to pick from. Again, for me.

Yeah, if you make that mistake, you need to learn from it. If not, well... That's a you issue.

I recoil at the idea of deleting a game, unless it sucks, the only time I delete a folder, is when I am replacing it with the next update. For this game, I am a tester, so I have almost every version of it still on my drive, and won't delete them until it's complete and we have finished the testing process. I currently have 108 versions of this game in my F95 game folder, and that will keep growing, at an average rate of 4-5 a month.

External drives are cheap, there is no excuse not to have at least one.
Can I chime in here, Devian? I remember when we spoke about this one on the discord.
This is for anyone playing AVN,VN or maybe games in general.

Listen, backup every version save of your VN games. If you don't have storage, open up a google account. Or use a dropbox, whatever. Upload the saves and you'll always have saves ready:

I sort by date, so the ones I play most or have just been updated are always at the top, and my favorites, have shortcuts on the desktop that I update whenever the game does.

I just don't get the thought process of deleting something you are not done with. Foreign concept to me. If you are never going to play it again, then I get it, but you should never rely on the 'backups' as your main saves. you just never know what could happen. Some drive failure, or a random windows update, or a hard crash, anything is possible. Keeping it on another drive is much safer, especially if it's an external HDD.

I see your point, but counter-point, hold CTRL. Lots of game updates break/delete saves, whether I'm involved or not. If I remember the gist of the game, I can skip to decisions and recreate my original game fairly easily. Also, they are porn game saves, not a work project or dissertation. Redundancy is not needed, and would interfere with the recreation aspect of the hobby. Again, my subjective opinion. YDY.

And I would say I am done with the game, until the next chapter drops. There's more games than free time, and the free time is competing with other recreation options.

Well, I play mostly sandboxes, replaying is a lot harder than holding skip. I have to do it here a lot, we do several speed runs a month, but even then, with some games, if my saves broke, I would stop playing, it's just too much to redo. Those games are a lot longer, and while a lot of my old saves might not load any more, most of them will, I have hundreds, if not thousands of saves for some games.

Then you have screen shots, memes, and other things.

That is my point, 'done for a few weeks' is not done, that is just putting things on hold. Makes no sense to delete the folder if you are just going to remake it in a few weeks, unless your drive is dinky, and you are struggling for space. It's just not something we expect most people would do.

Either way, saving the save folder and any other things isn't that difficult. Besides, we always post a save for you guys to use for anyone who 'loses' theirs with each update. We post it in the thread, or you can get them on the discord.
Unity won't let us put the saves in more than one place anyway, so I am not sure what else we can do. As I said before, this is what the supporters voted for, and we do everything else we can think of to accommodate everyone who 'forgets'.

I think we agree that different situations benefit from different strategies. Sandboxes are the type of game I play despite them being sandboxes, usually because they have great writing or characters. I don't take screenshots or make memes, as a general practice. Most of the games I play aren't 'done for a few weeks' it's multiple months to (unfortunately) over a year between updates. Space isn't a priority, but it's not not a factor. Renpy saves the save folder for me automatically, and those save folders are much smaller than the games (and as I said, I want a fresh menu of games to play, not an archive of games).

All that said, I'm not trying to change your practices, or tell you you are wrong in any way. I was just sharing my experience, and why I put this particular game down for quite a few updates. But everything is subjective and I don't consider my best practices for my situation and preferences likely to be the best option for other folk.

Besides all this abstract technical talk, is there a dev path or hints about the future of the game? The first big mystery has been solved, much progress has been made with most of the main cast. What kind of teasers or direction could we expect? I look forward to visiting these kinky redheads more in the future (+staff?).

The goal is to be done in about a year, the mechanics are mostly done, other than the bonus content, so we are mostly doing story things, and chasing down bugs that always pop up.
Still have a couple of mysteries to solve, and some fun to be had. Maddie and the maids seem the most likely soon
(partly depends on the voters).

I apologize for the question, it's probably been asked many times, but where can I find the 4th book?

Olivia has it. You would have to progress her story a little bit, until her hint suggests snooping in her room.

but why would you delete the current one?
To be fair I only replay games with set branching

I only keep the games im actively following, if I'm gonna wait a while for a good chunk of content I'll delete it. I thought i'd hang back a few updates on this, and tbf the newer updates were great, the basements scenes were very hot

I have over a 1000 games in my F95 folder. A few are dupes, like this game, where I have more than one version for one reason or another (a few because I work on them). Some I haven't touched in years. lol
But you never know, I might get free time again ...someday.
