OK never mind the saves question. I thought they were somewhere in Documents but you just have to copy them from old game directory.
You don't. They're stored in your Roaming folder. You just have to start playing the new version, and it will see the old saves.

There's no reason it shouldn't work on every release, because it only changes the variables to what they're called.
I hope somebody uploads the game to the GDrive. It's impossible to download it from MEGA unless you have premium

You don't have to, saves are stored centrally (as well as within the game folder) in [USERNAME]/AppData/Roaming/Renpy/. So you can just start up 0.5 and it will see the old saves.
If however it's not, for whatever reason. Just copy the "saves" folder from ....0.4/game/ to ...0.5/game/
