I dunno, I thought it had enough heartwarming scenes to make up for the heartbreaking ones, especially given how unbelievably tragic the backstory is. I'm really looking forward to future updates.

I did double over laughing a few times during the speedrunner route. Definitely wouldn't recommend that for an initial run, though!

Has this thread been abandoned?

Okay...
In case you haven't noticed, the main creator of the game made a post here a month and two days ago ... And is very active on Itchio and Patreon, where with his partners, they post almost daily. ... - so ... I let you guess?

Build 0.5 Release Date:
AUGUST 20th
That's right! After months of hard work we are ready to announce the release date of Build 0.5! It's coming out on August 20th and adds approximately 300,000 words to the game.

Yes, that's right! Three hundred thousand words that make up an absolutely gargantuan update which, roughly, doubles the amount of content in the game. It includes:

  • Chapters 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 which, altogether, immensely advance the story and characters of Minotaur Hotel.
  • The Hinterlands, which includes a detective/exploration-like segment where you'll get to know more about the history of the hotel, how the world outside of it works and two new characters.
  • Four new recruitable characters: Robert the demon, Themba the grootslang, Khenbish the boar and Wolf the wolf.
  • The completed Ruthless Route, where you can witness what unfolds should the player character of Minotaur Hotel stay true to his god-given duty as Master of the Labyrinth.
  • And much, much more!
You can read more about the upcoming release in our .

In Minotaur Hotel 0.5 you can recruit Themba, a very experienced grootslang accountant from South Africa. You will not find anyone more eager to join the hotel's staff than him!

Robert, a prosecutor from "a" hell, may look menacing but all he wants is some peace and quiet to enjoy his mandatory vacation time. He planned on spending a month reading his backlog of books, but the hotel and Asterion's religious rites end up catching his attention.

Build 0.5 comes out on August 20, which is about two weeks from now. We decided to keep up our and do a pre-release Questions & Answers session. What this means is that you can send us all your questions and we'll answer them a few days before the game comes out.

What kind of questions are allowed? Well... pretty much everything! We can talk about the characters and their backstories , writing and creative process, this build's long development, lore, upcoming content, everything! Do keep in mind we won't be giving out any spoiler-ish answers.

If you want to send a question,

Is there a reason all new characters have pot bellies? Even for a bara game the characters' builds seem very samey.
It's a mix of factors.
I'll make no attempt to hide it that we really do like that body type so there is a bias, and that plays a role. Considering we aren't doing this game for the money, for the most part we allow ourselves to make the kinds of characters we like writing and drawing.
With that confession out of the way, this update has a lot of this bodytype mainly because... Well, a few months ago we mapped out the roster of characters we want to include in the game, and that selection was very diverse with body types. Then we picked which ones should be included now based on story reasons and the end result really was biased towards more bara characters.
We pick a character's body type to fit with their story and background, so just making one of them into, let's say, a twunk wasn't really an option we were happy with.
That said we do have characters that deviate from this pattern. One of them is the peacock character who plays a big role in this update and he's basically a twunk (pictured below).

We also have the snake guy, Argos, who's definitely on the twinkier side of things, but we haven't talked much about him because he's already in the game.
The next batch of characters (Build 0.6 and onwards) should be a bit more diverse. We do plan on having a very twink-ish character, for instance. And while a lot of the characters right now are on the chubby side, none of them are outright fat — we'll have someone who fits that bill in the next batch as well.
All of that said, chances are things will always lean at least a little bit towards thicker character designs. That's what we like doing the most, generally.
