Hrm, maybe the op was updated. But I just played through the thing and I could've sworn she said his father died.

I guess it really doesn't matter--I just hope this game gets updated. The age-appropriate MILF is a welcome development, but there needs to be a bit more story and activity since it's heavy on the internal monologues right now.
