Did you take the time to read the Survival Guide and also grind the new skills especially health before you went to the city?
Yes I know. But you should've did some grinding with the Health skill before getting to that point mine was at 300 before I went to the city.
Either go back to before you went to look for a "Hint in the forest" preferably right after you came back from the city with Lily. Or you'll need to fight really smart for the first 3 groups so you can grind your skills at the lake.
Delay looking for a "Hint in forest" for as long as you need too so you can grind your skills at the lake.

Do yourself a favor once you get the shadow groups cleared delay everything except finishing Lily's room and get your health up to around 300-450 as well as attack (attack maxes at level 5), your gonna need it for the next battle.

I made it through the attack on the cottage with under 200 Health.
I only have 240 now (level 29) and have never once run into trouble.
Pretty sure that Theo said, a while back, that he does test runs with minimal possible Health (i.e. no real farming for stats) to ensure that the battles are still able to be completed.
Think it was done by %, so whatever health you have, you'll be reduced to X % if you get the attacks right.
i.e. The more health you have, the higher the damage that you receive & vice versa.
Should need full Stamina, more than Health.

I've done it with 150 or 180 before.
Mine is at 1250 (level 115) as prefer to use Stamina for exploring. But I'm also somewhat lazy and used a save editor put the experience for health at I think 12000 so when I went to the forest and then straight back instant level 100.

My Sneaking & Attack are both max & have been for a while, so I've recently started doing a bit more farming to boost Health.
Went from 190 to 240 at the call spot in the City, alongside normal story progression through the tunnels.

How do I trigger the Lily's invitation to cure the curse completely? I have played this game before, probably an earlier version, and I seem to remember that she removed the curse completely in the end. But now, it just doesn't happen.

Thought the writing was pretty stiff at first, and the first girl seemed kinda boring to me.
But man I got completely hooked. Probably one of the best porn games I've ever played, and definitely has a narrative more engaging than a lot of actual studio story based games I've played. The sex dialogue still feels a little stilted at times, but every single character has completely grown on me. I love it.
