For anyone looking to get some better animation performance (if you suffer from stutter and/or high CPU usage), this should run fine with Ren'Py 8.1.3 SDK which has support for MMX enabled (Ren'Py 8.0.x hasn't.) (Perhaps an idea for The Ronovan to look into migrating?)
If you're going to try this out, it's important to keep default (8.0.3) & 8.1.3 runs separate (meaning, having & managing separate save files & persistent file). (So know what you're doing, don't blame me if you screw up your save file(s))

On Android, once the taboo patch is correctly moved into the newly created "game" folder, as with most ren'py mods on Android, the game crashes at the initial ren'py splash screen, never even making it to the main menu. Any idea why this version refuses it?

Maybe you have to contact them again. All the other devs I follow were able to get their pages back, you should be able to do it as well.
