Chances are Dev gave up.
Surprisingly, they didn't give up. If folks here were more active on their Discord, you would know as they post more there than here (but still infrequently).
- They were dealt a shitty reviewer at Steam *twice* who denied their game -- until a portion of it was removed (for no legit reason).
- Itch screwed them over on their payouts.
- Yes the have been active on their "Home Together" game, while they made tons refinements & fixes to M.Bay regarding the toons, bug fixes, game play, etc.
- And now they have an Android build out which has additional work to be done. Remember the 80/20 rule: 80% requires 20% effort and the last 20% requires 80% effort.
I'm currently playing the 1.0 Beta from a new save (as a paying customer) and been playing M.Bay for about two years. I can see the details that have improved. I can see where they are having to make the best of bad situation. I don't know if I'll have the time to check out the Android build -- it depends if I can use my custom Character cards on the phone.
Also, if you do play the game, there's hours of game play. It takes around 50+ in-game-days to complete depending on how you play it. (trying to play the story OR have a preggo harem in Hill House.)
They aren't doing a money grab either as others alluded to above.
I can understand why some folks are upset as their expectations aren't met. Maybe those expectations were too high. Those who paid are the ones with the right to complain, not the freeloaders. Look at the game credits - it's just a couple of people grinding away. They could likely, easily make more money elsewhere (like flooding steam with cheap NSWF assest flip casual games.)
In the end, everyone is "sleeping in the bed of their own making" - the risks the Devs took (IRL expenses, the trolls, & the crap they put up with), the thankless f95 players who don't pay for a game only to whine about their expectations, and those of us who paided for the game (to support the devs knowing the risks).
Me, I'm not sorry. I know what I bought into. I also didn't expect Steam and Itch both to fuck them over. Oh well. People haven't been giving them credit for what they've done right. They've learned their lessons from M.Bay, and applying them to Home Together. I wish them luck with that game. It looks good. I've seen their Changelog & screenshot improvements. Myself, I'm holding out on "Home Together" until it has more of a story/game play considering Monolith Bay has one. Hopefully Steam and Itch won't fuck'm twice.
