I can get it, I suppose. But if you don't want to grind to recruit all the monsters to join you why bother with recruiting them at all? The party size is limited to 8 slots and I can't imagine it being doable to level up all the insane amount of monsters you can be recruiting anyway or even taking advantage of their traits\abilities in any meaningful way with how many of them there are (unless there's a mechanic to share the xp with companions who aren't even in your party)This game is grindy enough for me to not try to fish for the right monster, spend 4-5 turn talking to it before the fight end and losing the toss for the recruiting thing before needing to find another copy of this monster and try again.
Just do yourself a favor and skip this mechanic.
Personally with the way job xp functions right now (even with 200% job xp rate that you can have accesses to relatively early) you'd need to do same fights over and over a lot to level up jobs, so (from my point of view) the recruitment thing is fairly inconsequential
That is aside from having to talk to them mid-combat, but since you're sometimes awareded items for that it's not like it's a terrible way to spend a turn, especially considering the +2000 speed and the fact that you have 4 actions per turn and 1 person in your party could be one-shotting everything, so if you can set it up so that one talks, one steals, one kills it's gonna be pretty efficient (which yeah, it feels odd to be like "hey, let's talk while I order my companion to rob you blind and also bash you over the head with a giant cleaver" \I guess that's the beauty of gaming ;d)
