I knew I forgot someone! Aster in Evenicle! Fuck that guy, he's the reason I dropped the game.Every Rance-style horny serial-rapist, especially if the game tries to present him as an incorrigible rascal. Nauseating.

you're describing every politician in the history of everything, lolI can't remember the name of the game but the MC is:
some self entitled bumbling incompetent
a serial cheat and liar (who casually leaves offsping dotted around the countryside)
offensively thinks of himself as having integrity and honesty
completely at ease bending any regulations for financial gain
... regulations I should point out that he happily tells everyone else they must adhere to
somehow ends up in charge of some nation or other
I mean how on earth a writer comes up with anything so unbelievable is beyond me
I agree with most of your post, but this seems a bit contradictory. You threw shade on self insert kids, which I agreed with, but forced LIs would mostly be fine if you don't self insert. You may not like her personally, but the MC certainly does/did. If you want to role play as the MC, you should give him the benefit of doubt and try to go along with his natural choices as long as it is written reasonably. Now, answering the OP's question, while plain MC's are boring and uninteresting, forced LIs in non-rapey games are terrible. You can't say no to them even if you strongly dislike them! We get you like that kind of girl/man and think they are the finest life has to offer, Mr. Dev, but we don't have to agree.
My issue in that regard is that forced LIs are not limited to linear or highly story-driven games. With those you pretty much know the amount and type of content are pre-assigned from the get-go, but a forced LI in a CYOA or sandbox-oriented game becomes a massive distraction and content sinkhole, often tied to mandatory grind or story in order to progress towards other parts of the game.I agree with most of your post, but this seems a bit contradictory. It doesn't make sense for an MC played in a certain way to fall for some kind of LIs given their personality. It's bad writing and depriving players of options. Too linear. It feels like listening to a dear old friend speaking of the dumb cow he has fallen in lust with, ranting all day long about all the positive qualities his imagination has adorned her in his head (just because she has a huge rack).I agree with most of your post, but this seems a bit contradictory. Personally, I tend to like starting off with a gf/wife because cheating on the SO adds some extra depravity to whatever is happening. Sure, you could cheat on non-forced LIs, but this type of set up has a much lower likelihood of actually acknowledging that cheating is going on. Forced LI have a easier time writing around this relationship since it's a given. This is where the writing skills come in. If you can cheat/break up in a believable manner, that's great. If you are forced to be head over heels in love, but are able to freely pick cheating choices without any inner/outer conflict, that is just shitty. If the gf is some harem enabler, the game is doomed due to cringe 9 out of 10 times.
You can say that about anything in the script though. I don't want the MC to be some beta shithead. I don't want the MC to be some sleep raping rapist without any self awareness that he is a creep. I don't want the MC to be a horsecock teenager. I don't want the MC to be some liberal arts SJW. I don't want the MC to be some white knight simp. I don't want to MC to be lusting after their family members. I don't want the MC to be lusting after young students. And so it goes.It doesn't make sense for an MC played in a certain way to fall for some kind of LIs given their personality. It's bad writing and depriving players of options. Too linear. He asks your opinion and you tell him "No, pal, she's neither intelligent, nor funny, or even bearable as a human being. You are just rationalizing the fact you would eat shit to touch her tits, and that's sad because you normally aren't this retarded"' But he still pursues the b.
You know he's headed for a trainwreck and can't do a thing to prevent it.
That's the option I want for my MCs: the ability to say NO. I want the character to stop and think that s/he maybe shouldn't nail people with chromosomes to spare. All that with an alternative that would still offer a satisfying story.
To be fair, you did choose to play a game with "my sister" in the title. That's like playing Hitman and being upset that killing is not optional. In a sandbox game, sure, it's a legitimate complaint.I'm echoing everybody who mentioned forced love interests. Few things turn me off a character more than forcing them onto an MC.
The sister from My Sister, My Roommate
My hatred of the sister character comes from her personality, attitude, and actions, not the fact that she is forced onto the player. Sorry if my post was confusing in that regard. To be fair, you did choose to play a game with "my sister" in the title. That's like playing Hitman and being upset that killing is not optional.
