It's basically the asian martial arts setting in fiction. It's really popular in korean and chinese comics

Murim is a setting based in ancient china(But with mythical elements). It typically shows up in Wuxia(named after the sound a sword makes when swung, like whoosh) Novels, aka Chinese sword fantasy. It's a bit hard to get into without all the context, and most of the content based in Wuxia novels can be a bit trashy.

That version number seems pretty accurate. More of a prologue preview than even a tech demo so far.

Anyways, game design wise, it's not good the player doesn't receive any indication whether name and gender have been correctly registered until clicking "I was...".
