I suppose that's true to some extent. My point is if you're interested in that specific character, you're locked into a playthrough with only one meaningful (?) decision able to be made; that you want to explore her route. Which I'd argue is very counterproductive to a game like this. Poor game design.
What character? Shinigami? You aren't locked out of her content if you don't follow this route. You're not locked out of anything really. All this route changes is a bit of flavor text at this point. It makes Shinigami a bit less of a bitch. But still a bitch lol

Actually you get less Shinigami content following this route.

Perhaps I'm overreacting about how consequential it is to the story. Games not finished yet though, so who knows what exactly this route entails. My main gripe is the implementation anyway.

Yeah you're right, it may have more consequences down the line.

Implementation wise I don't think it's really that bad. It makes sense as a route. There are really only 2 routes, love and lust. All you do to follow it is not choose the pervy options instead taking a more romantic approach. It's nowhere near as counterintuitive as some other "secret" routes I've seen from other games. Like the secret Alexis path in Intertwined. I'd never have found that shit without a walkthrough explaining exactly how to do it.

Well, I'll be frank I don't find the whole "this game did it worse" much of an argument. You say there's only two routes, but if that is genuinely the case, that makes the entire mechanism for tabulating "love/lust" irrelevant. Why would you bother allowing a mix in the first place?

I and I believe most players, will priortise what they'd authentically choose in the scenario presented and occasionally that which they find most compelling, whether that be amusing or titillating etc. Not wholly bind themselves to a single metric.

Having some measure of consequence for a route is necessary to make it feel impactful. To have a route fully block off any player input for a good chunk of the game? Just a weak design choice, I think is fair to say.

But that's the thing. The game didn't block off my input at any point at all. I actively chose to go full love just to see that route on my own on my 2nd playthrough. You make it sound like I was robbed of options or something when that couldn't be further from the truth. Those are simply the options I decided to go with. And sure, you can mix/match the routes all you want but really there are only 2 as I said. Lust and love with each girl. And I chose all lust for first play, all love for 2nd to see both branches for all the love interests. Obviously you don't have to play that way, its simply how I chose to do it, to see as much as possible in as few runs as possible.

In that case the dev might as well remove every option, except for just having one at the start saying love or lust. If there's no benefit to mixing; in fact only negatives. Why bother with it?
