If you have followed the news, an Australian political group sent about 1000 emails to Visa and MC which has hit Steam and Itch very hard (due to a new law down under.) over 20K games dropped on steam and 21K on Itch have been hidden. Thus Steam added a new rule (#15) basically anything that "MAY" be illegal WILL be removed. This is the updated platform guidelines that have come down, and of course they had legal precedence because one bad egg got through Steam filters in the past. (One bad VN specifically, not this one.) So Steam cracked down in advance.

I know the news I was just asking if what's being removed is the option to input the type of relationship you have, I am just surprised if that's the case.

Just wanted to give you all a quick peek behind the curtain, we’ve got some big edits coming.
Due to updated platform guidelines, we’ve made the call to retire the "Role Tags" feature from the game. This change affects a significant portion of the content, so we’ll be knee-deep in restructuring certain scenes and reworking the way some dynamics are introduced.
The goal is to keep everything clean, compliant, and built to last.
That said, we’re not just patching things up. While we’re in there, we’re giving the dialogue a bit of a tune-up.
What you can expect:

• Role Tag prompts will be removed
• Dialogue across the board is getting enhanced
• Update may be delayed while we get everything right

We know shifts like this can be a little jarring, but rest assured, the soul of the story isn’t going anywhere.

I fully understand why Nii is doing what he's doing and he's obviously not the one to blame, but What. Fucking. Bullshit. Personally, I don't care if a game has incest or not, but when it was clearly the devs' intention to include it and it gets removed due to some retards crying about what people can or can't buy with their money (legal stuff, of course) then that's just ridiculous. I understand that Patreon already cracked down on incest a while ago and the fact that MBML was able to get away with these "role tags" is, in of itself, a miracle, but this recent censorship wave on Steam and Itch goes way beyond just some adult content. Just keep in mind that these are the same people who wanted to ban GTA V

Is it disheartening? Absolutely. We all understand what NiiChan is going through, it’s not his fault. Still, I feel sad because even though the function tags could be tweaked to change the type of relationship with the characters, the dialogue and behavior still made it obvious there was some kind of family dynamic. Changing all of that now is a pain, and it’ll take a lot more time to revise everything.

Honestly, I’ve never seen a year with so many online restrictions. Steam and Ichi are pulling content, the UK and EU are forcing people to upload real photos and IDs just to access 18+ content, like that’s somehow going to “protect the children”...

It’s depressing, but there’s nothing we can do for now. Hopefully, in the future, NiiChan will be able to release both an uncensored version and a "safe" one for whoever needs it. I just hope everything works out in the end.

You might get away with keeping the role tags if you use them exclusively for switching between two non-incest options such as "roommate" and "childhood friend". I think it would be best to place the switches for this in the Settings/Preferences.

2. Makes it easy for someone else to provide an incest patch.
3. Giving a purpose to a role tag by offering an option to choose between two different non-incest values is a bit of extra effort but provides some degree of plausible deniability: No, this is 100% not intended to make an incest patch possible!

Adding multiple roles to choose from wouldn't be the minimal effort path. It'd double the work since then if NiiChan wanted everything to make sense they'd have to rewrite the dialog to make sense for both options, not just the one they choose.

Even with your suggestion an incest patch wouldn't be as easy as just changing the role names. It'd involve the modder going through and doing what NiiChan is right now to remove the incest, changing the dialog to make it make sense. A patch that just changes the characters roles without adding any dialog changes to reflect them being family would be pointless.

It sounds like you think NiiChan is just removing the role tags and picking one. I didn't get that from the announcement at all.

They are restructuring scenes and reworking some of the dynamics plus tuning the dialog. Not just removing the role tags.

Finished with censoring stuff. The version will likely hit the thread in a few hours. Some scenes or dialogues may come out a little jarring or stupid, but I want to get a clean version out asap while I continue to improve the dialogues, which will likely take at least a week.

Up to the mods if they still want to keep the non-censored version. It's off my hands now.
