As a russian myself, i can say with certainty this shouldn't be the case. You can blame the poor language knowledge, sure, but nationality shouldn't have anything to do with it. "He/She" ("Он/Она") used in russian pretty much the same way as in english (when speaking about a person at least). Overall russian language have a lot more nuances, but when speaking strictly of people's gender it is very close.

They usually don't obviously, but if cumflation can be a thing, adults fucking (18+) children can too.

I can get why some Russians do this, though. In the Russian language, everything has a gender. So "child" is "he", even if you are talking about a female child. Even objects and countries have a gender, btw. Both Russia and America are "she", but China is "he". Covid is a "he", but a vaccine is "she". So if someone wants to learn Russian they need to learn the gender of each noun, lmao.
