[Sorry to ask a tech question, but with the uploader who supplied the original (Trope) here regularly, and a 99.9% chance that several people on several different browsers/configurations tried to DL it, it seems like the ideal place to ask.]

This devilish Erika image attachment clearly was originally a PNG (original filename still visible when opening the attachment in a separate tab/window). When I go to DL, however, it is an AVIF that I don't want.

Is that something that (a) F95 is doing automatically now when larger images like PNGs are uploaded for attachment, or (b) is it something new my browser is forcing on me on my end?

If I try to download the image, I have the follow option (I‘m on a iPad, don‘t know if another OS is the same):

Hey Guys, i have a Problem with Playing Season 3. I played Season 1 and 2 without any problems, so i started 3 loaded the last save of 2 but when it starts, there are no images. Error "Image c19s008_... not found".
Does anyone know about this issue and how to fix?
I really like this game.
Okay its running now, I copied by hand the c19 images from S2 to S3
Your save wasn't from the last chapter in Season 2 (that's why it tries to load c19 images instead of c20, last chapter, or c21, first chapter in Season 3)
I included the images from the last chapter in Season 2 (c20) in case anyone had a mid-chapter save. I can't include every chapter's image or the split into Seasons wouldn't make any sense (it's done because of size reasons).

OK, more on the format change issue.
I made some tests and:
If I open the image and use the download interface it downloads as a png
1739443839742.png
If I open the image and right click on it and choose to "Save as" it downloads as an avif
So it's something the forum is doing with the images. I guess that's why sometimes I only see one of my own signature images and, on other occasions, I can see all three of them.

You would think that it should be simple, right? But noooo...

I opened the two images from the original posts, then clicked on the download button in the top right corner of each image. This caused the image to open in a new tab. The full URL for each of them is:
https://attachments.f95zone.to/2025/02/4571560_Special_49_-_Erika_1920.png
https://attachments.f95zone.to/2025/02/4569026_c07s004_020.png

Oh, they have the PNG extension so everything should be fine, right? Of course not! Checking the HTTP response headers sent by the F95 web server shows that there is an issue:

And the results when I check the actual contents of the so-called PNG files should not surprise you anymore:

$ file Special_49_-_Erika_1920.png
Special_49_-_Erika_1920.png: ISO Media, AVIF Image

$ identify Special_49_-_Erika_1920.png
Special_49_-_Erika_1920.png HEIC 1920x1080 1920x1080+0+0 8-bit YCbCr 0.000u 0:00.001

Same for the other file:

$ file c07s004_020.png
c07s004_020.png: ISO Media, AVIF Image

$ identify c07s004_020.png
c07s004_020.png HEIC 1920x3240 1920x3240+0+0 8-bit YCbCr 0.000u 0:00.003

And to make things worse, having the image as attachments does not seem to help at all. They lead to exactly the same URLs from attachments.f95zone.to, so these are always the converted files. :(

The weird thing is that the sizes displayed under the attachments (1.5 MB and 9 MB) do not match the sizes of the downloaded attachments (300 KB and 1.2 MB). I tried clearing the browser cache, doing a force-reload of the attachements... no luck. The HTTP response given by the F95 web server is always the same and always gives me the AVIF files with a misleading PNG extension, instead of the original PNG files.

I think the forum forces to change all graphics files to AVIF due to a smaller size. Probably the forum is already clogging.
The change of file extension also gives nothing because the attempt to open in the graphics program only causes a message that the file is damaged.

I went through all of this with Firefox when webp was new. IIRC (which I may well not) your browser tells upstream which image formats it can accept (which list you might be able to influence) and the server picks the one it likes best (without your input).

A bigger can of worms than I thought I was opening, but I'm glad I'm not crazy. More than I already knew, anways... :LOL:
OK, more on the format change issue.
I made some tests and:
If I open the image and use the download interface it downloads as a png
View attachment 4545663
If I open the image and right click on it and choose to "Save as" it downloads as an avif
So it's something the forum is doing with the images.
I also get a file that has .png as an extension when DL-ing with the icon instead of SaveAs, but then that file won't open and says it isn't actually in that format. EDIT: Same thing happens if I use a 3rd-party downloading sofware (JDL). That usually is an effective workaround if the browser is the issue, so I am def convinced the site is the issue. So F95 is both modifying image files (understandably) but then also being deceptive about it by not accurately displaying the new file extension (not so cool). :cautious:
Jokes on you, i have i toddler. I have no concept of time anynore lol
Facts. But don't worry - it will only be about 15 years or so until you can get a full night's sleep again. :ROFLMAO:

...Of course at that point you will wake up to pee after a few minutes hours, feel the weight of them being grown up and moved away in the stillness of the night, and then not be able to go back to sleep again because you are melancholically remembering all those wonderful sleepless years when they were little. Sigh. Enjoy all the good and all the bad, because before you know it it's gone.
there are 1,000's of pirate sites that got this rn, why wait
Um...respect?
