I'm on my first playthrough still in season 1, and man, it would have been nice if there was a Kim path where I don't have to be an asshole but I also don't have to tell her I "love" her skin condition. I have no intention of pursuing a relationship with her because I do not find her attractive, but I also wouldn't be a dick and tell her that she should wear full body makeup all the time to hide her condition/be ashamed of herself. There really should have been a middle ground.

Not to mention that not going all in on her also causes you points with all the other starting students. From what i've read you want everything to be optional, but in this case it seems like you're punishing players for not going totally full harem. It makes it feel like not a choice.

the Trigger for Kim comes later , in S2 so you can be still nice to her and get points with the other girls the critical branching point, is clearly marked and has a nice middle ground as well, just as reminder, you can always switch relation on / off from the profile menu in S2 if needed or if you change your mind about one girl.

The points only make options appear, they don't lock you in a route. The route itself is ALWAYS an option and clearly marked.

Being unfriendly or unkind to any of the girls is NOT necessary and it is optional, it allows you to be a "jerk" if that's what you want to play as.

On Kim's case, being on her good graces and being supportive of her and of her condition, will make the possible romantic route available. But, since you don't want to pursue it, it will also make her a good friend and a more confident person.

Also, Trope allows for the player to have autonomy, but only up to a point, there are still limits. Because the scenes to render can't border on infinity. This isn't procedurally generated, each scene needs to be rendered. So, calm your tits. You are not being punished for not going full harem, you are just being told the consequences.

In this case, if you choose to be a "jerk" all girls will be crossed with you, as they should be. And because you don't have to be, so, it is optional behavior, it is quite correctly applied.

You aren't one of those that see "consequences" as punishment, are you? Because they aren't. In this case you are asking for a consequences free way to be a jerk. I don't think there should be one. Actually I would ask for the consequence to be even worse.

Peace :(

Great news for you then; there is! You can be nice to her AND still being friendly without being on her path.

Perhaps then its just this specific interaction. Choosing the top option leads to a conversation where you say you love her skin and consider it a map or some such. But the other option is an asshole remark. Points are heavy in both directions, and I didn't want to choose either of them.

Boy, what an ignorant response. I was quite clear in what i said. I specifically DID NOT want to be a jerk. I don't have to be into her to not be a jerk. There should always be a middle way. As you can see from the screenshot i shared in my previous post, a middle way was not offered. A woman with vitiligo shouldn't feel ashamed of herself, that doesn't mean I have to be attracted to her or tell her she should hide herself away.

That doesn't mean you're attracted to her. You can still choose the first option and that doesn't mean you are on her path... the path choice is way later.

The conversation that follows that choice is very much "into her", though the other option is far too distasteful which is why i had to go with the top. She even asks if you're hitting on her, and then you saying something to the effect of "not yet". It just seems like a neutral option should have been there.

Well, I understand but I don't know what I can say more. He's not into her (yet) and the option to be on her path is later. So even if you choose to be kind and friendly and it's not your favorite option, your still not on her path so you don't have to wonder if she's in the harem or not, you can clearly say no to her later and still be friend with her, don't worry.

I understand you and appreciate your response. I was simply trying to communicate that her path seemed too one sided even before the precipice. Case in point that specific interaction. Having all the girls points wrapped up in it seems improper and unfair. The MC could support her as a person without having to insinuate to her that there was an attraction between the two of them.

I'm still working on my playthrough, but so far in season 1 it seems like every single interaction with the students effects all of the students, and that just seems wrong. You're either full harem, or an asshole, or rarely you have the option to get no points with anyone at all. I mean, the girls JUST started getting to know eachother. I've got a lot of thoughts on it, but i'm trying to play through the story to see how things work out. This specific instance being so heavily weighted with only 2 choices just really really bothered me. And the whole idea of a forum is to share these thoughts/ideas/personal feelings right?

I understand what you mean.

Try to view it like that; the girls would like you more if you a friendly, nice and sweet with the others, even if they aren't in the harem. They view each other like potential friends/family. So, when you choose the action that gives you point, it's like just saying to someone in real life that her new hair is gorgeous and she looks amazing today. That doesn't mean you want her more than a friend just because you give her a compliment.

Viewing it like that, you'll see more and more in the game that it doesn't mean you are automatically interested to add that character in the harem. The choice to add a character is more a yes or no question like: "Open path with X? Don't open path with X?"

So even when your MC isn't in someone path, you can still be a friend with her and it always prove to the other girls are a great guy you are.

I hope that will help if you can view it like that.

Yes, it is. I know Trop will respond to you tomorrow when he gets a chance. It's night time for most people on that side of the ocean. lol
This was my goal. Even if Trop doesn't agree with me, I imagine they want to hear respectful perspectives. And maybe even this particular scene has simply slipped by until now and they'll consider adding a middle way there.

I certainly do not want to insult. Just trying to participate in the discourse and offer another view on what to me felt like a pivotal scene.
