Well, I do have a rather unfair advantage, sorry.

I first tried to read in Spanish when I was 8 or 9, I got curious about a leather bound, large format, edition of "Don Quijote de La Mancha" (too lazy to look for the name in English, sorry). To my surprise, other than a few words here and there, it was very easy, for me, to read it. So I continued.

Later, I found that books that were VERY expensive in Portuguese, were very cheap in Spanish. In other cases, there were no Portuguese translations and the Spanish versions were already on sale. So, reading in Spanish was a no-brainer. To my chagrin, reading, didn't help me in writing, and listening to Spanish, sure didn't help me to speak it. I can understand it easily, but my attempts to communicate in it, are, really, really, bad. As xapican put it, is Portuñol.

So, yeah, sorry.

So, last night, finally, I did something that I had promised myself I'd do quite a while ago...

I restarted My Dorm, in Spanish.

You see, I wanted to experience the unvarnished, corrected, edited, cleaned, Tropecita. And boy, did I get it...

First noticeable thing, there are typos... I know... SHOCKING. Imagine, people that write making typos... who knew...
Second, he's a LOT more "dirty" in his thoughts... This Mark, he's a bit of a savage, in his mind, only, of course.
Third, Martha is so much nicer, so much motherly, so much closer and warm. I encourage anyone that can to read it in Spanish.

So far that's it, I didn't progress much, because I got distracted with how much more warm and cosy the whole family felt. Erika and Daphne, I dunno, they didn't felt like cousins, but more like sisters. Emma, felt more real, less hyper, impulsive yes, but caring.

The whole thing felt softer, "dirtier", warmer, real. I gotta say, I already liked the way Trope wrote this story, but, now, I have a whole different feeling. It's like it's closer. Like they moved down the street and I can hear them in the pool.

Again, if you are able to, do yourself a favor and read the whole thing in Spanish.

I guess reading it in Spanish is, as you say, more natural. Even if I try to carry on the feelings and the way the characters are into English, it isn't easy sometimes. Later on, you would notice fewer differences; since the first chapter was going to have a native translator (I explained previously how badly that ended), I wasn't thinking about how it would sound when translated into English.
After the failure of that collaboration, I started to write the updates (after 0.3, Daphne/Scarlett kissing lessons) taking into account how the translated version would look. I hope you still like it when you arrive at that point.

About the typos, I put much more attention into the English than into the Spanish version, then. I know it was a mistake, but I wasn't aware I was making SO MANY typos. Now, I pass the Spanish script through spellchecking too so, after some updates, the typos will almost disappear. At least the most glaring ones.

If this is going to change, it is a pity. Right now, it is simply perfect. The writing feels natural, like it comes straight from your feelings.

I've read a lot, really a LOT. I have a good understanding of tone, of style, of pace, of flavor. While the English version is quite good, both in style and in tone, the Spanish one is all about flavor. It's like comparing a decent steak to a GREAT Paella. Sure, both are good, but one of them wins in flavor(s).

Gotta say, this Mark... I like him. His internal monologue is hilarious. And a LOT "dirtier".

For example: "Tetas" is a LOT hotter than "Tits". Why? I dunno... but it is. If you "hear" it in your mind, said with a bit of salivation, "Tetaaaaas", hmmm it just activates a special area of our libido. While, "Tits", is nice, but almost dry, clinical even. "Tetas"/ "Tetones" / "Pechos" / "Pechones", o si carinõ... LOL. Then I remember that a TitJob is called "Á Espanhola" here, then you start to figure out that you are completely done...
