I don't know what to say. Today I started three games that I had downloaded and was waiting to play. All three bored me within half an hour. This game is ruining the whole forum for me. And I ended up spending the last few hours of the day replaying this game.
There are great games in this forum. I could recommend a couple of them... one of them I finished (I wouldn't recommend AL to anyone, even if it's great).
I guess other players who like My Dorm could recommend other games that can be enjoyable. But it would be better to do it in the off-topic thread

AL has the same initials as another VN that I can't recommend to anyone despite the fact I consider it good.

I will say that AVNs like My Dorm make me a lot less willing to just put up with things out of boredom. Back when I first got into the genre, I didn't know what was going to be good vs not so I put up with a lot of shit looking for diamonds. Now I'm way pickier about what I spend my time on.

I wish I could say I don't understand. But I do.

In the last few days, I've tried maybe 6 or 7 games, some new, some already on their way. Every time an MC acted like a maniac, unable to control their most basic instincts, I sighed and felt an impulse to kill the game, delete the saves and remove it from my Watch list. Some times I did just that. Others I clenched my remaining teeth and tried to carry on. Then they did it again, and again, or worse, the story is so full of holes and of basic tropes that I felt my brain melt.

Sure, looking at pictures of naked ladies is fun... up to a point. Then you have to back it up with a story. Preferably one that doesn't make me wanna go wash my hands because I feel dirty just from clicking. I am NOT interested in most of the stupid shit these "Dev's" fill their games with. Domination? Fuck that shit. I have no inclination to be or feel like a rapist or an abusive person. Spanking? Fuck off. I respect myself and my partner way too much to beat them. Non-Consensual sex? Rape! That's what it is. Humiliation? Who the fuck HURT you so bad that you need to do it to others? Anything in the fucking BDSM repertoire of shit? Don't even...

Then comes the "Peeping Toms", the "Serial Cheaters", the "Blackmailers", the "Gropers", the "Harassers", the "Liars", the "Egomaniacs" and the whole complete repertoire of Toxic Masculinity stupidity. I have no more patience for any of this.

This is where this game shines. A decent male MC. A guy that I would love to spend some time with. Truly a rarity. A story that isn't here to justify the most depraved instincts and white wash abuse and toxicity. A story with depth and interest, with characters that feel good to spend time with. Yes, there's sex. Loads of it. What there isn't is disrespect.

So, yeah, Gino, I understand. I truly wish I didn't... but I do.

Peace :(

The title has something to do with "Taking classes to become an actor" but in two words. That's why I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I consider it good because the dev made me feel what he wanted me to feel, but it spent months without being opened after THE CHOICE.
I won't ever recommend it, but it's a masterpiece in its genre. A genre I don't enjoy.

As My Dorm has shown, I'm more into happy endings.

I don't mind my AVNs with a side of emotional trauma (within reason) but I'm definitely not into bittersweet or depressing endings.

I prefer to show traumas like Eva's or Amanda's and have a supportive MC who helps them overcome them.
My Dorm was influenced by the handful of AVNs I played before my stepson became fed up with my whining about what I would do differently and convinced me to do "my" own game.
SL: Not having to choose between a date with one girl and a date with another girl.
Also SL, AL, LoF: A clear and natively integrated walkthrough. No blind choices. The mystery should be where the story goes, not what an obscure choice will do down the road.
MotH (and others): No sandbox.
Some other games: No RP hoarding. It's clear how many points you will need to do what you want to do (if you want to do it).
Some more games: No forced relationships. NONE. I don't want a girl I don't like (be it her looks or her personality) in my harem.

Also, my personal beliefs (like no non-con/sleep/etc. sex) influenced it, obviously. When I tried to walk a different path, I messed it up.

I'm with you guys on this. So many of the games here have stuff that puts me off. I'm not 100% with everything FG was saying, as I don't mind a bit of (mild) domination or (consensual) spanking (think like Cozy Cafe). The rest though? yeah, creepy/rapist MCs are the worst, or MCs that are otherwise fine but "have to" peep on someone changing in the first release just to fulfil a quota for a lewd scene.

Give me the weirdly wholesome stories, like this one or MNF/M, or at least give me an MC that doesn't act like a 14 year old who's never seen a boob before.

I only recently (for me) started with MD, the last update being the second or third since I started playing, and I'm already on my fifth or sixth replay.

So yeah, good work so far Trope. I hope this game continues for a long time and I look forward to whatever you do afterwards.

I agree, but making a game is hard. People don't want fuckfests but if the dev doesn't show a boob, people will make bad reviews saying "no content", "slow burn", "snooze fest", etc. And it's hard for a game to recover from the first five reviews with 1-2 stars. A lot of people will see the score (and don't read the reviews) and pass on the game.

To me, there are other ways to fulfill the quota. I tried to do it in the first release with Saira, Emma, Emma+Daphne+Scarlett, and Norah. It didn't work for me with Saira, but it worked for a lot of players, since she became a player favorite. I would do things differently today with her if I started the game once again.

But, of course, My Dorm's first release was almost 26,000 words long (more than some completed short games). I wasn't in a hurry to release it and start earning money (I didn't think I would earn anything with the first few releases) and I took a bit over six months to develop that first release. I was ultra-happy with it, until I re-read/re-played it some months ago. A facepalm after facepalm experience. But it served me to (start) learn(ing). And My Dorm wouldn't be what it is without that first release.

I've seen some games' first release with 90 renders and 2,000 words. And the devs (think they) need to show something in so little space and time. That's when you get the creepy MC, because they can't find a way to show a nude girl without the MC spying on her. And they think they won't earn money without it. And it's a cliché, so it should work, right? What those devs don't understand (and I'm not blaming them) is that you can't get into the development world thinking you will become a millionaire or earn a living after three updates. You're bound to be frustrated if you think that.

Played one where you move in with a friend of your parents' and her 2 girls and the first time you take a shower all 3 of them are pepping on YOU. :sneaky:
In My Dorm's first release, Daphne, Emma, Scarlett, Erika, Norah, and Martha peeped on the MC at some point (and Saira and Eileen, the other introduced girls, had lewd scenes) :ROFLMAO:

If the plot of My Dorm was just Martha and the MC against the world, I'd still consider it just as good.

I don't know if that speaks more to Martha, my standards, or if I'm insulting the rest of the cast. I don't mean it to come across as insulting but Martha pretty much makes me happy and everything else is just bonus.

I am glad I don't have to juggle RP points though, it makes stories too game-y, and imo makes situations less organic.

Yeah I'm 100 with you I prefer story who take time and dev who don't think about income since the first release. I discover an AVN this week (it's about a dynasty in wrestling) in 2 update we have like 100k word without real H-scene and it's really good. In my opinion and maybe I'm naive but if your game is good and you do your game for the good reason it will work in time.

It doesn't have to be sexy time, but I can only spare so much time for a story to set the hook one way or another or else I'll move on.

Sure the writing must be good but like I said previously I'm into romance so if during this time the relationship are well build I can wait to see some hot scene.

I still play it. Same as I do with another game where you're a private detective from a different dev. Two word game. Do I recommend those games? Depends on who I'm talking to and what they like.
