It is like the ending of the movie Days of Wine and Roses. Husband is a recovered alcoholic. Wife has been unable to recover. It appears she is suppoting her drinking with prostitution. She gets sober and comes to visit him, and asks that he take her back and they be as they were at first both enjoying drinking. Husband, of course, cannot do that. She cannot ask that of him. So she leaves and returns to the life she has been leading. Husband is watching from his upstairs window as she crosses the street. He cries out to her, his voice full of deep anguish.

Because, he intensely knows that he shares responsibility for her downfall. She did not drink before he introduced it to her.

If you cannot feel the tragedly and the sorrow in this situation, then, yeh, you have been burnt. Human downfall with no possibility of recovery is a deep tragedy every single time. As Husband knows, he cannot join her, cannot give up his sobriety. But still he cries out.

One must conclude that life is not fair. It was fair of her to ask, fair of him to refuse. But life is not fair for situations like this to happen to people. Who was it that decided that the price of feeling good should be so devastating? Step up and take your licks, god.

Some of them are. As we have discussed here today, there are ways to know when somebody has been burnt. Lack of empathy being one of those. Not that being burnt is not also deserving of empathy. Sometimes childhood or life in general can be too much to bear.

Sorry to hear that empathy has become a political issue.

Not that I am one of the lucky ones. I'm sure that if SC were here, he would set me straight pretty damn quick.

NGL, running through all my threads with my morning cuppa and it took me a moment to figure out who "Christina" was

Not helped by the use of "Vi", which I would take to be an abbreviation of "Violet" and never of "Vivian".

Where does "Vivian likes this" come from? The natural abbreviation of Vivian would be Viv. "Vi" is a completely different sound, matching to Violet.

As for the absence of SC Stories - it seems to me that he casually mentioned that he (they) need to rest/ take an extended vacation - and that's it. Of course, the silence is a bit disconcerting at this point - but think about the fact that back in February, for example, he had a longer vacation planned. Realistically - if you don't hear from him by the beginning of September, then you can start thinking seriously about the fact that the story may be abandoned. SC is doing any of his freelance work and the time he spent preparing 2 parts had to compensate somehow for work/life.

Disputes about the morality of the characters I find completely pointless, about the motives driving - at this point I think we still know too little about the whole situation to have a clear picture - it reminds me a little of some Lynch films, where the plot is not clear even until the very end - but you always have the feeling that you are “touching” something great.



I, for one, am still waiting for explanations about the human setting, because the constantly repeating characters are getting disturbing.

No, I don't know everything, nor do I pretend to. When something new comes up that isn't in the game, that's why I ask questions, because otherwise it might look like someone is giving theory as fact, etc. Here, for instance, you're saying that Vivian likes "Vi" and when asked about it, you're not giving reason, just obfuscating, and eventually saying that the dev said she hates "Viv" (which is something else I cannot find evidence of - the only time a search comes up with the dev using "Viv" is when he literally just used it as an abbreviation himself). To be clear, even if it is confirmed that she doesn't like "Viv", that doesn't equate to her liking "Vi". I mean, she never abbreviates her name anywhere, so the only assumption you can realistically make from that is that she prefers to use the full name and not abbreviate it at all.
