I was thinking of 2 ways the Shadows of Silence could play out with Vivian showing a different form of contempt towards Hutch. The first, although I think less likely, would be her becoming openly hostile to Hutch.
I can agree about 'open hostility' but Vivian becoming disappointed in Hutch and suffering in silence, keeping resentments to herself... that seems possible. Now I'll state for the record most women, their emotional needs outweigh most considerations, but women are human, and desire and instincts tend to get in the way. Each of the character's I named in my post are physically and perhaps more emotionally balanced.
In this case she would do things like insult and belittle him to his face.
Or whisper silent disgust or think dark thoughts The second, and I think more likely, would be for her to remain fond of him, and be pleasant in their interactions, but at the same time be dismissive.
Or be confused with disappointment for Hutch's weaknesses as a man and husband For example, I could see her giving him a kiss goodbye, and saying, "I love you don't wait up for me! I will be back tomorrow morning."
Dude that is just cruel (it's saying like OK honey I am off to go get f**ked have a nice night) with a smile while walking out the door in a sexy dress for a date with Christian. I could see Hutch standing there staring at the door a broken man after she leaves. The Shadows of Silence would be him staring at the door unwilling to say anything while knowing that he has been discarded as a husband. I don't like this type of ending, but it would not surprise me if something like this is what the author has in mind. I am certainly open to a better ending for Hutch, but my hopes are not very high for it.
OK... yes, I am being a little difficult and my jokes and points are not winning any points. But I really do agree with your ideas and all are valid. But what I was talking about was everyone ELSE but Christian. Vivian got the kitchen pass with regards to the boss... and Hutch is well aware. But WHEN Vivian finds more sweets other than Christian, it would destroy poor Hutch to discover she's with two high school kids and some BBC car mechanic. The landmine you are aware of isn't much a threat, but the others you are not that are a problem.
And I think over all that is what the developer is getting at... as painful as sharing your wife with the guy you are aware of, its the ones you are not aware of that are soul crushing... and since this is a corruption game, its Vivian's destiny. The only way the high school boys and mechanic will have access to her, is if she lets them and wants them... she might still love Hutch, but a stronger desire and pull most likely is the darkness to come...for Hutch and Vivian because for her, guilt and remorse will be her bitter tea.
