Well, if we are going by that logic, the MC mentions and thinks about the neighbour (the "Mother") before we actually see Daughter. So as a player we are actually instructed into thinking it's the Mother who's MC's main interest. Like MC himself, the player then goes on to learn that (for most players anyway) Daughter is also smoking hot.

So the entire game is about balancing those two facts: the open, honest relationship with M and the temptation of D which (at least until now) conflicts with the former. The assumption seems to be that the player will be at least somewhat attracted to both M and D, but that he can choose which one to focus on (or both). It would be weird if suddenly the player didn't get the chance to favour one over the other, and there isn't really one "THE important girl" as far as I can see.

Right, but those thoughts are again context for the character, not the player. Meeting the Daughter is much more memorable than meeting the mother. Thoughts or no, the first interaction in the game is with the Daughter. If he'd wanted the Mother to be the focus the way to do it would be to have a scene with the Mother FIRST, then meet the Daughter. And what I was talking about as strange is the ability to completely cut off the daughter angle while not having a similar option for the mother. Not that I'd take it, but it still seems a little odd to me, as again, she comes off as more of an obstacle to the daughter than anything else.

I think you are generalising too much based on your own subjective experience of playing the game. Just because the first character we see visually in the game is D does not mean that completely determines everyone's sole focus. In my experience, D and M feel balanced, and M does not feel like merely an obstacle to get to D. The only question is how to combine both relationships, something which both M and D are equally obstacles/paths towards.

The problem with M, I think, is very simple:

She's a very, very generic relationship. She's your age, there's nothing special about her despite being a single mom, she's an...average person. It's a porn game, there's a reason most of them are fantasy or incest or whatever. Even the most generic ones target something specific, the sweet innocence of young love or whatever. With M it's just an adult relationship - two people like each other, they end up having a date, having sex, M blows you, then there's some more sexy time. There's nothing spicy, nothing new. I'm not at all actually saying that is bad - I very much like the story. If anything, it adds a shitload of realism that many games miss, cause it actually feels real. But it does make M feel like a sidequest towards the main, spicy idea of doing her daughter.

While, technically, Mom is older than MC, it's certainly not noticeable through the graphics. I'm not sure (recall failing) but have we ever seen MC face?

I do agree with just about everyone in this debate:

1) Mom was already established as first "lust" interest (nothing in her appearance on screen diminishes that, btw)
2) Daughter is clearly the "pursuit" part of the game
3) Mom relationship is "real", Daughter relationship is "fantasy" and both is, well, adult gaming

Given we're gamers, Daughter is usually going to be the preferred choice since it's got a pursuit angle to it. In other words, you have to give some thought how best to "seduce" her.

With Mom, it's pretty much just be affectionate and she's ready for you. Daughter has that nascent attraction mixed with naive purity that so entices us gamers.

So, while Daughter is likely most gamers "first" choice, the structure allows you some guiltless sex while pursuing your borderline less-noble chase of the "wrong" relationship.

Probably what makes this such a highly appreciated game!

Perhaps, but that spicy idea of doing her daughter wouldn't have been so spicy if you weren't in a relationship with M too. Or even if M had a different personality. Personally I find M's personality pretty hot: She is fun/charming, traditional/caring, and sensitive, unused to relationships after ex-man died. All this at the same time makes for a pretty well-rounded character. Yes, she's not a futa or something like that, but I think her realism in this regard makes the whole triangle situation interesting. The fact that she goes from kissing you, then french-kissing, then blowing, etc., means that she's opening up more after her bad past. All this opening up in turn implies things might work out in a triangle with D, eventually. If she was some hyper-sexual futa thing, she would just fuck MC day one and accept whatever happened to her daughter. You would have no stake in it, and you wouldn't care what happened either way.

All this being said, you're right that D plays into something specific that M doesn't. But M's presence and personality in the game makes the whole theme and appeal of D much better imo.
