But Harem Hotel does give us a yearly update or more, and usually Mythic Manor updates followed HH by about a month.
Harem Hotel has been on a similar trajectory, around 2022, it slowed from 3 updates a year to 2, then the past 2 years have been annual updates. Mythic Manor's problems started in 2021 when it dropped from a 3ish month update cycle to a 6 month, then after June '22 it became 8-11 months between updates.

Bad all around, but if we're keeping score, Mythic Manor has yet to go a full calendar year without a public release, Harem Hotel has done so with the last 2 updates.

One of these days, a large group of people will get fed up forever and stop supporting projects.
And we'll have a debacle.
The vast majority or all of them will lose hundreds of patrons.
And there will be a general cleanup.
And two sides will remain.
Those who do it for the love of art.
And those who will flee, abandoning their game.

Well, the game is far from completed.
They might as well make a new game or two.
So *supposedly* MM was made by a pair of creators, and the more technical of the two stepped away from the project. The remaining person has claimed they were going to hire someone to take that over, but it never materialized.

This is made all the stranger by the fact that this is a Ren'Py visual novel, so it's fairly simple, and nothing other than visuals/new scenes have been added in years.

It's really unfortunate, they were making over 10k/month on Patreon until they kept letting the 6 month window blow by.

This is way out of "Left Field", but suppose the entire game is being remade like what happened with Wicked Rouge turning into the Refined version while the original was abandoned... At least we would be notified, right?

I think this game and Harem Hotel fall into the same struggle pattern: You've created a game where there are so many characters to keep up with and such a different style of game, that it is hard to find the drive to put anything of meaning together after a while.

There are some titles that can still keep adding content time after time and we all enjoy it immensely (Take Being a DIK for example), but Mythic Manor and Harem Hotel strike me as the same game with the same flaw: you've spent too much time and taken too much time to finish it that there is no longer a fire burning for the work. You've done what you wanted to do and turned it into a job and now you can't stand it. The fire and the magic are just simply gone. That pattern follows a lot of creators and challenges that people cannot seem to overcome because now that they are making all this money the passion has turned into obligation. And when things go from "I enjoy this" to "I'm expected to keep doing this" it changes the dynamic of the game, the characters, the story, and the outcome.

This title is no different. And I'm more than willing to bet that the dev is sitting back and enjoying the money piling up while pushing out content to a little trickle in order to maintain the income but not the outcome. It's a damn shame because titles like Mythic Manor, Harem Hotel, A Wife, and Mother, and others were pioneers for the longest time. But then in the back of the mind of the devs you have to know that they're thinking "I don't know how to end this." or "I don't know if I WANT to end this and disappoint everyone." so they drag it out. They milk it. They give small updates in order to get to a point where we may say "Oh. It's such a shame that they died before they finished this game." and just accept that we'll end up with an unfinished product.

People will still continue to sink money into a failed and flailing project because of the potential that is there and this and Harem Hotel are OOZING with potential...but I highly doubt we'll see a finish line any time soon.

Yup, they go too big. Add too many characters trying to cater to everyone's tastes and eventually they got a ball of yarn worthy of Guinness and don't know how to proceed.

So they Reboot, Abandon, and/or Sequel.

It's like Night City (Loser, SP1&2)... they have decent ideas, but can only seemingly half execute, and then just run out of steam.

Frankly, I'm kinda shocked anyone supports the devs more than a month or two at a time. The probability that you're going to wind up sending oodles of money to a game that'll just be left unfinished and abandoned is *so* damned high.

This is natural because adding something new instead of expanding what is already there is a kind of protection against burnout. That's not the point at all, it's just the developers being lazy. There are long-standing games where there are also a lot of characters and the developer step by step methodically adds content for each

It's always the same with most games.
The more support they get, the more updates take a backseat.
The important thing is to squeeze the most out of their backers.
There are exceptions, but unfortunately, almost 90 percent of games follow the same pattern.
Too look at it from another perspective

The more support they get, the higher the demand for new content and quality of content. I'm sure devs can still pump out an update in 3-6 months, but people will complain that it doesn't have content for their favourite girls, or it looks shit, or there's not enough content. Therefore bigger updates are required, so everyone is happy, bigger updates mean more coding, more writing, more renders.

VNs aren't outside the "project management triangle".

Dont understand why people support and pay for this project when they get almost nothing for it every month? Some pictures? Also how can Patreon and platforms like it accept that?

I've supported this maker myself a few years back, but I stopped when the game stopped receiving updates. Its a good game, sadly the developer seems to be, if i am nice,"uninterested" in developing the game at a good pace. Imo people shouldnt support projects each month that dont perform updates each month. Should also be some kind of built in feature in Patreon where u can unsign from projects that dont release relevant updates.
