Sort of glad I waited on this one (and I'm still waiting to get it to the top of the order...). I've had so many replays and borked saves due to VNs getting reworked to go on Steam that I've basically decided to not download any VN that isn't already set up for it. I've probably lost a month of play time in the last six months due to Devs that have made the switch while the VN is still only around 50% done...

That's just a risk taken whenever you play any game (especially indie games) when they're not complete. You never know when you get to a far point in the project and think "oh. There was supposed to be a variable set for this at the very start."

I tried really hard to avoid making people redo saves, but it was very difficult with Ren'Py's code updates and me having never made a game before.

Mixed feelings on this one. I LOVED this game, first off. Characters, lore, and all. But... hm... felt like it's missing a chapter? Without spoiling much for anyone else, the last chapter felt like it came out of nowhere. I actually guessed the villain on my first try, and everything that came after made me REALLY confused, "I was right?! Wait, why does this feel like the end of the game?? ...Oh..."

It feels like we were just starting to know Mara and Becki, so their reveals at the end were cool! But felt... unearned? Like, there wasn't nearly enough build-up to it.

It's just one of those things that seems to have accelerated in the last year - having one switch over now and again is one thing, but there have been a deluge of the "Steam" retrofits it seems, at least amongst the VNs I follow.

One of these VNs did retro work four time before it's tenth release - it did shorter releases so that represented about 20-24 months of development time - and then at release 10 or 11 it retroactively added in a character to the beginning of the VN that gave you a brief romance arc over a couple of those retro-releases, and she now seems to have disappeared altogether. Immediately after that the Steam release rework started.

Yes - that is an egregious example. For the Dev trying to move forward, learn on the fly and fix things that might cause a real problem down the road, I suspect it can be frustrating on many fronts. For better or worse, the consumer doesn't see the struggle of the individual Devs, but we do see ourselves being impacted by multiple Devs making changes to something that is supposed to be entertainment and a pleasurable pass-time, and it starts to frustrate since much or all of the time previously invested now has to be invested again, at least in part, without the pleasure of discovery - just retreading to get back to where you were so you can move forward. When this happens with one VN, there's a little bit of grumble but not too big a deal - by the time you're getting into double digits with it, it's disheartening.

But, the good news for you as far as this one consumer is concerned is that I'll be coming into your universe as this installment is completing and there will be no frustration! It's just going to be the joy of discovery! :ROFLMAO:

Oh, wow, you got it right on the first try! That's cool!

I was trying to really tread the line between "this is dragging on" and "whoa, that was out of nowhere!" for the pacing of the game. Bear in mind, this game is (and was always intended to be) the first in a series. I wanted to establish the characters as they're set to appear in the future (ie - Agent MacLachlan and Becki with Ennai).

The game was ready and finished, right?

To wait a little longer, my best wishes to Nine (y).
Oh yes, the game is finished! But I struggled a lot with getting approval on Steam - you can see that slog I've gone through in the past two months of updates that were week after week of "Steam denied my approval again!". I'm holding it off until June so that I can have the demo in the Steam Next Fest, which hopefully will be good advertising for the game prior to the Steam release.

Also, as I'm going through the Steam beta test, there's a whole new set of issues that come along with Steam. Achievements have to be a little reworked to work with the Steam client, and I want to make sure things aren't getting unlocked wrong (like the Tales and the Scene replays).

But, the good news for you as far as this one consumer is concerned is that I'll be coming into your universe as this installment is completing and there will be no frustration! It's just going to be the joy of discovery! :ROFLMAO:
Well, I do hope you enjoy it! I'm just an author trying to make a game out of my stories, so the whole programming/visual aspects are the parts I have some struggles with. Thankfully, I have a lot of support between my testers and fellow devs that are helping me along the way. I don't forsee the road being this bumpy for Book Two!

Oh yeah, I knew going in that it was a "Book One", I wasn't even upset that I didn't get to know Area 42 or the girl who called you Chad. It's just those characters specifically.

That makes me wonder ... is there going to be an achievement for getting it on the LAST try? ^_^
People asked if there was going to be an achievement for getting it right first or anything similar, and I decided against it because I didn't want to tie an achievement to anything that would require a whole bunch of replaying.

Then I accidentally did that with a different achievement, anyway. :x I never claimed to be smart.

Achievements addition? Click the laptop behind Tara popup top left says is that porn? Then the image on the laptop goes black.
General comments: Remember back when you slowed aggressively searching for a woman, when the next thing you know a girl or woman whispers that this other girl really likes you.... (take action, then also look to the whisperer). I have found that the more women are interested in you the more they whisper to each other and the more that actively start pursuing you, instead of you pursuing them. Focus on learning body language clues, and improving your overall health, with workouts, gymnastics, martial arts, sports. I always focused on speed with some strength and stamina training. Things like dance, and acrobatics are surprisingly helpful too. Plus those environments attract your target audience too. You see these posts complaining about men oggling women. Be the guy they seek and oggle. Get your education, was it Sophocles that said the best insurance of old age is education? Be funny, have a sense of humor. Very attractive to target audience. And do not find the keepers at bars, the best long term dating I found at churches and at the universities I attended. Always focus on "her" make certain she achieves, first. If you can get them to the oogles (what one taught me meant multiples....) You will have them falling at your knees begging you to stay and do it again. But go ahead to work, I did. You can come back for more another time. End of comments. Enjoy.
